STILLWATER – The December Signing Period for Oklahoma State is finally upon us and the Cowboys are bringing in some talented athletes. Pokes Report is detailing every signee with in-depth profiles and analysis, as well as premium content on the class. We’ll also have head coach Mike Gundy’s thoughts on the signees and exclusive interviews as well.

We’ve bundled together each signee by position group and we’ll be looking at the cornerbacks below.

  • De’Kelvion Beamon
  • Raymond Gay
  • Cam Smith
  • Makale Smith

(The profiles were created by Robert Allen)

De’Kelvion Beamon, CB, 6-2, 182, Shreveport (Huntington), La.

Here’s one of your recruiting surprises as Beamon has been listed as a commitment in the class of 2022, but the corner with big-time size and ability is going to come in a class early. He’s not breaking the mold as there are some other pups coming to college early and having success. Excellent skills as he has started some since his freshman season at Huntington. He had 21 tackles and three passes defended as a freshman. Named a first-team LFCA 4A all-state selection at defensive back as a sophomore, Beamon had 22 tackles and five passes defended in the 2019 season He is a four-sport athlete that has competed in sprints and high jump along with basketball and golf. He is a legit sub 4.5 athlete. His offer list is impressive as it includes Bowling Green, Kansas, Memphis, Mississippi State, Penn State, Texas, Virginia, and Southern Miss. His team was cut short in games this season with COVID-19 as they went 6-2 and 1-1 in district play. What a bonus to get an athlete like Beamon a full year earlier than expected. Born to Constance Beamon on April 8, 2003, in Shreveport, Louisiana, Beamon plans to major in business at Oklahoma State.

Raymond Gay, CB, 5-11, 175, Red Oak, Texas

Gay committed to Oklahoma State early and has primarily played wide receiver in his prep career at Red Oak. Our Marshall Levenson saw him a couple of weeks ago and he is having the best season of his prep career as he has almost equaled his numbers from his junior season. He has 933 receiving yards in the regular season of his senior year after last season catching 39 passes for 758-yrds and nine touchdowns as a junior. Earned second-team district 6-5A honors as that season in helping lead his team to an 11-2 record including a district championship and an appearance in the third round of the playoffs in 2019. A two-sport athlete, Gay had a best time in the 200 meters of 22.65 in a meet at McKinney, Texas last spring before the season was cut. He also runs with the 4x100 meter relay team and they had a time of 43.65. Gay is athletic, has a good set of ball skills, and is fast. His school offers included Abilene Christian, Columbia, Dartmouth, Houston Baptist, Illinois State, Jackson State, Navy, New Mexico, Northern Arizona, Pennsylvania, and Yale. Our guess is Gay is really smart too, as smart as his offer list. Raymond Devon Gay was born on March 14, 2003, in Dallas, Texas and is the son of Raymond and Felicia Gay. He plans to study business administration and management at Oklahoma State.

Cam Smith, CB, 6-1, 175, Denton (Braswell), Texas

Finished his senior season playing on both sides of the ball with 59 receptions for 772-yards and 10 touchdowns. He also returned one kickoff for 52-yards and returned one punt for 56-yards. On defense he had 11 total tackles with five unassisted and he picked off a pass. Braswell missed out on the 6A-I playoffs. Smith is so athletic and has the length that will make him a very promising cornerback. He also knows how to get inside the head of a receiver since he has been one, a successful one, for so long. As a junior helped Braswell to a 9-3 record and the second round of the Class 5A-II playoffs in Texas. He had 76 receptions for 1,259-yards and 15 touchdowns. That earned him first-team All-District 7-5A-II and he got it on both sides of the football. As a sophomore, Smith had 38 receptions for 444-yards with two touchdowns. He was All-District 7-5A-II at receiver. He is a three-sport athlete that competes in basketball and track. He is a two-time All-District performer in hoops. In track, Smith runs the 200-meters and does the long jump, triple jump, and relays. He committed to Oklahoma State but had offers from the likes of Arkansas State, Boise, Kansas State, Louisiana, North Texas, Northwestern, SMU, Tulsa, Utah, Vanderbilt and Wyoming. Smith was born to Deshima Smith and Charles Smith in Dallas, Texas on May 16, 2003. He continues on a tradition of family members playing college football as his father and grandfather played football at Grambling State University and his grandfather, Charles E. Smith, played for the Philadelphia Eagles. A member of the All-Academic first team and the National Honor Society, Smith plans to major in business at Oklahoma State.

Makale Smith, DB, 6-0, 175, Midwest City, Okla.

Smith said he jelled with his new head coach Mike Gundy as they are both Midwest City Bombers. Smith led this season edition of the Bombers to the Class 6A-II semifinals before bowing to eventual State Champion Bixby. Midwest City finished 8-3 and Smith had 31 catches for 649-yards and returned a punt for a touchdown. He also ran for a score on his only carry. On defense he had 52 tackles, 34 of those were unassisted, one tackle for loss, one sack, nine passes defended, two fumbles forced, and two interceptions. He earned honorable mention All-State honors as a defensive back in The Oklahoman. He also plays guard for the Midwest City basketball team. Smith chose Oklahoma State over offers from Air Force, New Mexico and Oregon State back early in the summer months.
