Running Like Barry: Oklahoma State Dominates on the Ground
There’s not a better way to honor Barry Sanders than the way Oklahoma State did on the field tonight.
The Heisman trophy winner and NFL/CFB hall-of-famer was in attendance because of his statue and ring of honor induction. He watched the Cowboy rushing attack go berserk against TCU in the dominant 63-17 win.
In the past 3 TCU wins over OSU, they’ve held the Cowboys to an average of 83 yards per game. But in the past 3 OSU wins over TCU, they’ve averaged 360(!) yards on the ground.
OSU ran for 447 yards tonight. And 8 touchdowns. The GOAT approved.
Keep in mind that OSU was without Josh Sills because of a foot injury and Danny Godlevske left the game with a lower body injury.
Jaylen Warren came in with 928 yards and he ran wild in the first half. Mike Gundy and the staff were incredibly aggressive. They went for it on 4th and 1 from the TCU 6-yard line two times in the first half. Both of them led to touchdowns.
Warren reached the 1000 yard-mark on the season late in the first half and his three touchdowns pushed his season total to 10.
The final touchdown showed off his elite vision, making not one but two cutbacks and walking in untouched.
On the opening offensive possession of the third quarter, Cowboy fans gasped as Warren took a big hit and stayed on the ground for a minute. He walked off on his own power and it appears that he will be ok moving forward.
He didn’t play another snap the rest of the game, but he didn’t need to.
Dez Jackson subbed in a ran with the same power that he displayed last year. He punched it in from 5 yards out to cap off the drive and later scored from 1 yard out on another 4th and 1.
When Jackson wasn’t in, Dominic Richardson was dominating. On his first drive he slashed for gains of 28, 18, 8 and 2. The last one being a 2-yard touchdown. He would also score again from 20 yards out. Trucking TCU defensive back John Foster and scampering to the endzone.
The blowout gave true freshman Jaden Nixon some more action, and he found paydirt. Nixon has elite speed, acceleration and vision. On his second carry of the night he burst through the line and was in a footrace to the endzone. He broke 4 tackles along the way and spun his way into the endzone.
The future of the OSU running back room has never been brighter. Tonight, everybody got a chance to prove that. The result was one of the most dominant rushing performances in OSU history.
