Profile: The quarterback in the class and like most head coaches and recruiting coordinators wish, Rangel was a very early commitment to Oklahoma State quarterback coach Tim Rattay and Rangel stayed true to his pledge. He was instrumental in helping get other players to commit and in setting up a network on social media among the 2022 commitments. That tells you plenty about his leadership skills. His playing skills have been good as well as he has helped Lone Star on three successful playoff runs the past three seasons and this season, he did it despite missing several games with a knee sprain. He broke out as a sophomore starter, and he completed 69 percent of his passes for 4,855-yards in a crazy up-tempo spread attack. He averaged 323-yards passing a game that season as Lone Star went to the Class 5A-I State Championship Game losing to Cedar Park 22-6. On the way in the semifinals, they knocked off Highland Park and ended the Scots long winning streak and hold on the title. Rangel threw for 50 touchdowns that season and 10 interceptions. His junior campaign, he was 188-of-272 passing, again completing 69 percent for 2,429-yards with 27 touchdowns and just five interceptions. As a senior he completed 127-of-187 passing for 2,049-yards with 24 touchdowns and just three interceptions. Rangel is athletic and can run as he has 86 career carries for 260-yards and two touchdowns.
Robert Allen’s Projection: Rangel will have some physical development to do in the weight room. He is very accomplished with his skills, and he is highly dedicated to knowing the game and opponents thoroughly. He loves to study the game. His early arrival will help, and I can’t see him being anything other than a competitor for the starting role as soon as his second season.
