Talyn Shettron Signs With One More High School Game To Play
EDMOND – The morning after the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl my wife and I will get to Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport very early for a 5 a.m. flight home. That is one early alarm, but the good part of it is that we get back early, and I will be home in plenty of time to tune in and watch Edmond Santa Fe graduate and new Oklahoma State wide receiver Talyn Shettron in the Under Armour All-American Game. Shettron becomes the third Santa Fe Wolves player to make a national All-American Game.
“I’m very excited,” Shettron answered when asked about the Jan. 2 game in Orlando, Fla. “Honestly, all that gear I’m going to get is one of the best parts (about it). Plus, I’m going to go out there and make some relationships with some cool people.”
Shettron, who finished his high school career 211 receptions for 3,194-yards and 36 touchdowns, said he doesn’t feel the pressure of walking into the wide receiver room that has seen a lot of talent and currently has some good young talent. He kind of sees it as an honor. He loves heading to Oklahoma State and being part of the Santa Fe pipeline to Stillwater.
“It’s going to be great. Collin (Oliver), Trace (Ford), and Calvin (Bundage) was up there,” Shettron said acknowledging that those guys helped in his recruitment and his brother’s. “It was really Coach (Kasey) Dunn that recruited me. It was my first offer, and we had a personal relationship. I would say it was really him that got me up there.
“It feels great. A long time coming, and I’m excited to finally be a Cowboy,” Shettron said after the ceremony. “This process has been going on since my freshman year, so honestly for it to be done feels really good.”
Besides the Cowboys offensive coordinator Kasey Dunn, also the receivers coach, Shettron credited the Cowboy culture.
“Honestly, the culture,” he said of what locked him in after he had committed to Oklahoma and then took a second look at Oklahoma State. “It really is like a family, and you have to go up and experience it. After you go see it everyone wants to be a part of it.”
It doesn’t hurt that he will room with somebody he knows very well and for a long time. His brother has a chance to be one of the top Cowboy backs in the program in a long time.
“We’ve talked about it a lot and we’ve been playing on the same team since we were young,” said Talyn. “Now to be playing on the same team at the next level it’s going to be fun.”
Fun for them, but also fun for Oklahoma State fans.
