STILLWATER – One of Oklahoma State’s top defenders has made his decision on next season.

Safety Tre Sterling took to Twitter following No. 9 Oklahoma State’s 37-35 comeback win over No. 5 Notre Dame to announce he’s declaring for the upcoming 2022 NFL Draft.

Sterling had an extra year of eligibility due to COVID-19.

Sterling missed most of the 2021 season following a wrist injury suffered earlier in the season. He had season-ending surgery on his wrist ahead of the first game against Baylor on Oct. 2.

Sterling is a redshirt senior out of Sunnyvale, TX, who recorded 22 career starts before suffering the injury prior to the Boise State game. He finished his OSU career with 161 total tackles, 100 of which were solo stops, 20.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, three interceptions, 12 pass break ups and two fumble recoveries.

In his two games prior to his injury, Sterling recorded eight total tackles, three solo stops and 0.5 tackles for loss. He made it back for the three of the final four games of the season, recorded one tackle against Texas Tech, four against Baylor and two in the upset win over No. 5 Notre Dame.

Pro Football Focus tabbed Sterling as a top-50 college football player entering the 2021 season, and PFF tabbed him as a preseason First-Team All-Big 12 selection.

Great player and great career. Selfishly I was hoping he'd stay but the time is right for him to take the next step into the NFL. Go and be great Cowboy!!!
