Oklahoma State Drops Second Game of Three Game Road Trip, 78-57 to Texas Tech

It was another rough night out in the Big 12 for Oklahoma State as the Pokes drop the second game of the three-game road trip, a double-digit loss to Texas Tech, 78-57.

With the loss, the Cowboys move to 8-7 on the season, 1-3 in Big 12 play.

Bryce Thompson led the way in scoring for the Pokes as he finished with 14 points on 5-of-11 shooting from the floor, 3-of-6 from the free throw line.

Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe was next on the stat sheet with nine points on 3-of-5 shooting from the floor, 3-of-4 from the free throw line. He also led with six rebounds.

As a team, the Cowboys shot just 32% from the floor, compared to 50% from Tech on the other end. They did, however, outrebound the Red Raiders 36-33, but were outscored in the paint, 30-20.

It was a slow start to the game for the Pokes as the Red Raiders jumped out to a quick 10-0 less than three minutes in the game before Avery Anderson III hit two free throws to put the Pokes on the board. The Pokes started out the game 0-6 from the field before Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe hit a bucket on an assist from Bryce Williams.

That’s when the game started to get good for the Pokes as they’d go on a quick 8-0 to make it a three-point game, 19-16, with 9:04 remaining in the first half. They’d force a Tech shot clock violation, which was coupled with a 3:06 Red Raider scoring drought as well. A few minutes later, Williams hit a big three to tie the game up at 21.

However, Tech turned up the pressure down the stretch and finished the first half on a 19-6 run, with the Cowboys on a 2:07 scoring drought going into the break and trailing 42-27.

Tech jumped out to its largest lead of the night up to that point five minutes into the second half, 50-34. Coming out of a timeout, Likekele hit two free throws, followed by a steal by Moussa Cisse on the other end, but that was followed by a missed 3-pointer by Keylan Boone.

The game would continue that way for much of the rest of the game as the Red Raiders kept their lead between 14 and 19 points for the next 10 minutes, 67-48, at the 5:03 mark. Bryce Thompson hit a field goal at the 4:18 mark, the first FG for the Pokes in four minutes, giving the Pokes just their second field goal out of the past 14.

The Cowboys have possibly one of their toughest games of the season coming up next as they travel to Waco, TX for a showdown with a top-ranked Baylor squad who’s lost just one game on the season, a 65-62 squeaker to Texas Tech earlier this week. Tipoff for that game is scheduled for 4 p.m. CT on ESPN.
