Cowboys Need to Find Offensive Linemen in Transfer Portal

January 17, 2022

STILLWATER – It’s getting just a little bit serious over in the West End Zone as there is still one more week to get a transfer student in off the NCAA Transfer Portal. Oklahoma State has lost two offensive linemen (both starters) to graduation or the NFL Draft in center Danny Godlevske and All-Big 12 performer Josh Sills.

Cowboys Need to Find Offensive Linemen in Transfer Portal

Dickey can coach with the best of em but man he can't recruit. If we didn't have Bradford or now gone Crabtree who knows how much worse it would be. So crazy how little our success has amounted too. How do we not carry momentum in recruiting?

It seems we have had tremendous difficulty in signing offensive linemen. It does not make any difference if a person can coach or not if there are no players to coach. I am surprised Dickey is still a member of the staff.

Yeah man they can't all be diamonds in the rough. We gotta land quality talent. I was just recently talking about this situation. When guys leave and we don't have a wealth of high school talent stocked what do we do when the transfer portal doesn't hit that year? People thought I was crazy but look now? If we can't reel em in we got some problems. Starting to feel a tad like the Greg adkins situation

Robert are the juco's a dead end by now or could the Pokes still search those ranks?

I guess he didn't recruit Sills and Godlevske. You're something else. Grads are grads and the 2 others that left will NEVER start or even play much, especially at this level.

So, he's signing guys that will never play at this level? Doesn't that support the argument that Dickey's recruiting is a serious issue?

I think most of the guys that have left were recruited by Henson. Dicky has been brining guys in over the Henson recruits. (in general) a couple that left this year are actually going to other P5 schools, so apparently they can play "at this level"... it's just not working for them here.

His lines beat every team they played this year except ISU and Baylor the 2nd time. I would suggest that speaks well for both his talent assemblage abilities and his coaching.

Last fall OSU had 16 Offensive linemen on scholarship, next fall there should be 13 with no additions. Not great, but no reason to panic. If they can add one, or two new linemen they will be about where they were the year before.

Any idea why Berryhill lineman/OT who has multiple offers including Syracuse, etc., not considered?

A RSFR transferring to San Diego State is not an equal comparison. OL is a development position. It is rare to start or even play as a FR or RSFR as you will get mandhandled. These 2 guys that left see guys one class ahead of them and they don't think they can beat them out, so they take the easy way out and leave. This rather than stay, work, and get stronger. Who knows what the injury situation may be in the future.

As for 4 year guys that are backups or don't play, they should leave to find PT at a lower level. They won't be going to Ohio State. The grass isn't always greener. Opening up scholarships is sometimes a good thing for schools as RA says.

yipes..... lots of bad information there and skewed opinions....

Guys do play and start as freshmen on the OLine. Sure it is more common to redshirt, but that is primarily done because the team has guys ahead of them and has the luxury to do so. We've had a couple of freshmen that started on the OLine. Most teams do.

Notre Dame had 2 this year... Joe Alt and Blake Fisher (who got hurt).

Marcus Tate from Clemson started the season opener against Georgia, and played all year.

we recently had Marcus Keyes who started all season his RsFr year.

it's rare, but not unheard of....

Hunter Anthony went with Nebraska, not because of their profile or the chance to play, but because Tevin Jenkins told him if he could that he should play for their OLine coach at NU. Hardly "taking the easy way out".

And trying to break the lineup at TTech or San Diego State (a top 25 program) is "taking the easy way out"?

I'm not aware of any of the OLinemen that have gone to a "lower level", but not all have landed yet.

These guys are people... they deserve to be treated as people, not as personal trading cards by fans that have no idea why these guys are making these life choices for themselves.

This may help a bit. You hate to lose kids, but everyone is. This is put together by a Baylor fan and posted on another site. Just for example ISU has lost 15 players in the portal and almost every school is close to where we are.

I'm thinking that if OLinemen are recruiting other OLinemen for a particular coach, then we should be going after that OLine coach.
I know there are rules, but do we really want to follow them now?

I'm thinking that I should explain to you that Tevin Jenkins was a former OSU OLineman and fiend of Anthony's, and he now plays in the NFL...... the NFL player told his friend, Anthony, that if he could do it over he would welcome the chance to play for the Oline coach at Nebraska
