The Bells will Toll on Campus Tonight to Remember the Ten
STILLWATER – The pledge has always been and will always be “never forget.” The word anniversary is usually reserved for celebrations and while I don’t always think of Jan. 27, 2001 as a celebration. The word is appropriate because when we remember that tragic night and the 10 men all of us lost in the crash of that Cessna Super King Air 200 we do celebrate their lives and we remember how much they meant to so many of us.

Oklahoma State athletic director Chad Weiberg was on my radio program today and that last name on the list alphabetically is his brother. Everyday Chad goes into Gallagher-Iba Arena to his office. It is a building that means so much to his family. His father was an assistant basketball coach there. Oklahoma State was a passion for both Chad and his brother Jared. I’ve often thought how hard that must be. I remember last July when Chad took over and had his news conference introducing him as the athletic director. He got choked up when speaking of Jared.
Listening to Chad today, I realize that it isn’t that it is hard for him to walk into the building where he and his brother’s passion for Oklahoma State was shared, it is therapeutic and a daily walk that continues to allow him to treasure his brother’s life.
“Today is the 21st anniversary of the Ten and I just want to thank everyone involved for the last 21-years for all the test messages and emails and personal messages that I have received, and others have received today. It continues to be so meaningful beyond words, and I just appreciate everyone remembering. It is hard to believe that it has been 21-years and it is amazing that it has been commemorated like this for all of those 21-years. Again, I think that speaks to what makes this place so special.”

The entire Oklahoma State University community and fanbase will join in Remembering the Ten on Feb. 5 when the Cowboys host Bedlam rival Oklahoma at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
