Former Oklahoma State Quarterback Shane Illingworth Transfers to Nevada

STILLWATER – Former Oklahoma State quarterback Shane Illingworth has made a decision on his future, and that’s to head back west as he announced on Wednesday he’s transferring to Nevada.

Illingworth served as the primary backup to Spencer Sanders the past two seasons, playing in seven games the past two seasons, starting in four of the games. He started the season opener against Missouri State this past season, throwing for 315 yards with one touchdown and one interception on 22-of-44 passing. He’d finish the season with 385 yards and three touchdowns on 28-of-50 passing.

He’s listed as having played in the Fiesta Bowl against Notre Dame but came in for just one handoff and left the game right after.

In four games in 2020, Illingworth threw for 554 yards with four touchdowns and one interception on 41-of-70 passing. 

I don’t blame Illingworth for leaving for a better opportunity based on how Spencer Sanders not only improved throughout the season, but also based on the fact he still has two years of eligibility remaining.

The 6-6 sophomore came to Stillwater as a highly touted four-star prospect out of Norco (CA) High School in the 2020 class.

The quarterback room is certainly a little right now with just two scholarship quarters in Spencer Sanders and 2022 four-star signee Garret Rangel out of Frisco (TX) Lone State. There’s also Gunnar Gundy, who saw some playing time at the end of the blowout win over TCU this past season, and fellow walk-on Peyton Thompson.
