Cowboys Offer Vanderbilt DT in the Transfer Portal
STILLWATER – New defensive coordinator Derek Mason was able to give reference as the Cowboys have offered a scholarship to defensive tackle Raashaan Wilkins of Vanderbilt, who has one-year remaining as a super senior using his COVID year, as he had gone in the NCAA transfer portal. The 6-3, 310-pound Wilkins played in all 12 games this season and finished with 12 tackles and five unassisted. As a junior, Wilkins started all nine games, one of just six Commodore players to do so. He had eight tackles with 2.0 tackles-for-loss and a fumble recovered. He was recruited to Vandy when Mason was head coach at the school, so Mason is familiar with him.
Wilkins is an inside technique defensive tackle that is a two-gap player and can play comfortably in either a four-man or three-man front. He came to Vanderbilt after playing at Monterey Peninsula Community College. He helped them to a 10-1 record and a bowl win as well as being part of a defense that had 48 sacks.
A native of Chicago, Ill, Wilkins prepped at powerhouse Mt. Carmel and helped them to the Class 7A semifinals as a senior. He had six sacks that season. The big man also lettered in basketball.
His decision needs to come soon as he is available immediately.
