STILLWATER – Former Oklahoma State offensive tackle and All-American Levy Adcock is leaving his post at Owasso coaching defensive line for the Rams to take over as head coach at Tulsa Rogers High School. Adcock has been hired to the post and all that remains is for the Tulsa Public Schools Board to approve his hiring. The Tulsa World first reported the move by Adcock.
Adcock came to Oklahoma State from NEO A&M Junior College and quickly moved into a starting role and in the Cowboys 2011 Big 12 Championship season earned first-team All-American honors from Associated Press, FWAA, Walter Camp Foundation, ESPN, and CBS. He spent time in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants, and Carolina Panthers before finishing his professional career in Canada playing for the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
He taught and coached a year in Broken Arrow in middle school before moving to Owasso and coaching with Bill Blankenship and the Rams varsity program for the past four seasons.
“I can’t say enough about him (Blankenship) and how great it was to be able to learn from him,” Adcock told Barry Lewis of The Tulsa World. “I feel that high school coaching is where I can make the biggest impact on kids. I still talk with my high school coaches, and I want to make that same kind of impact.”
Adcock takes over at Rogers where the Ropers have struggled but Parker Childers, who is moving into administration, did coach Rogers last fall to a 4-6 season, their best since 2014.
“They started to have some success last year, and I want to step in and pick up where he left off,” Adcock told The Tulsa World. “I couldn’t be more excited and I welcome the challenge.”
At Owasso, Adcock coached a number of good players including Chris McClellan, who signed with Florida. Both McClellan (second-team) and Michael Jamerson (honorable mention) made the (Tulsa) All-World Team released on Feb. 12.
