STILLWATER – Former Oklahoma State and NFL linebacker Kenyatta Wright remembers when current Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy came to Vian and recruited him to Stillwater to play for the Cowboys.

“Coach Gundy looked me in the eye and told me Oklahoma State would help me become successful,” Wright said. “He wasn’t wrong.”

Wright became a three-time All-Big 12 linebacker and then on to a six-year career in the NFL with the New York Jets and the Buffalo Bills. Now, Wright is excited that his two sons will be playing for Gundy and the Cowboys. Solomon and Elijah Wright have both transferred to Oklahoma State this spring and are in school and working out with the Cowboy football program in offseason training. Neither player is on scholarship and neither was offered by the Pokes initially. However, we are all aware of the comeback stories that have taken place with transfer in the Cowboys program. Solomon comes to Oklahoma State from Arkansas where he red-shirted as a freshman in the class of 2021.

Elijah Wright (47) makes a tackle for UCO vs. Lincoln University.

Elijah Wright sat out his first season in 2020 at Central Oklahoma. The 5-11, 230-pounder started all but one game at linebacker last season and finished with 65 total tackles. He had 40 unassisted tackles with 4.5 tackles-for-loss, a fumble forced, and a pass defended. I saw him in the Broncos win at Northeaster State and he had three tackles and assisted on a tackle-for-loss.

In high school, Elijah was an All-State player that had 92 tackles, 15-tackles-for-loss, and 12 sacks his senior season at Vian. He also scored five defensive touchdowns, two on fumble scoop and scores and three on interception returns.

Solomon is a 6-0, 290-pound defensive tackle that had offers from Texas Tech, Iowa State, Missouri, Kansas, and Memphis before choosing Arkansas. He had over 250 tackles and 28 sacks in his prpe career at Vian.

“I am so happy,” Kenyatta told me a few weeks ago about his sons being in Stillwater. “I really believe that is where they are supposed to be and I know they will get a great education and be around people that will help them become better on and off the field.”

Rylan McQuarters is a walk on also. Is he related to R.W.?

Also we have a new 6'5" 230 lb. TE supposedly for '23 class, Brian Azua. Don't see anything on him in here though, so curious.
