An Explosion of Offense Helps Cowgirl Softball Sweep Texas Tech

STILLWATER – A 12-run first inning including five home runs pushed the No. 7 Oklahoma State softball team past Texas Tech in a 16-2 run rule victory at Cowgirl Stadium on Sunday. 
 
With the win, OSU improves to 24-6 and undefeated at 3-0 in Big 12 play. Oklahoma State scored 32 runs over the weekend. 
 
"It was just really rewarding to watch these kids perform the way they did," head coach Kenny Gajewski said. "I thought Kelly [Maxwell] was really good again, it was good to get Morgan Day out there and the weekend that Miranda Elish had was just wildly good."
 
Six home runs paved the way for the Cowgirl offense. Karli Petty and Kiley Naomi hit homers, as well as two from both Miranda Elish and Sydney Pennington. 
 
Elish hit two first-inning home runs, one being a grand slam. She remained perfect in the series, going 8-for-8 including four home runs. She tallied six RBI in the contest and nine over the weekend. 
 
Five home runs in the first inning tied a program record for most home runs in an inning. OSU scored 12 runs in the inning. 
 
It was the first time the Cowgirls scored 10+ runs in an inning and 15+ runs in a game since the 2020 season. 
 
Pennington hit her second home run of the ball game spurring a four-run second inning.  
 
Kelly Maxwell got the win, remaining perfect at 11-0. She pitched three innings and allowed one run on two hits, recording eight strikeouts. Morgan Day pitched the two remaining innings, allowing one run on three hits. 
 
OSU takes on Tulsa on Wednesday at 6 p.m. CT at Cowgirl Stadium before heading to Waco, Texas, to play a three-game series at Baylor starting Friday.
