Cowgirls Take First Game in Series at Baylor, Still Perfect in Big 12
WACO, Texas – The No. 6 Oklahoma State softball team extended its winning streak to nine games with a 6-1 win at Baylor on Friday. The victory marked the Cowgirls' 15th in their last 16 games and improved OSU to 26-6 on the year and 4-0 in Big 12 play. It was the ninth consecutive game in which the Cowgirls scored six or more runs.
Miranda Elish struck out eight in the contest and pitched her way out of a bases loaded jam in the seventh inning to secure the complete game victory and improve to 8-4 on the year.
OSU got out to a 2-0 lead in the first when Kiley Naomi drove in Brianna Evans with a double, then later came around to score on a fielder's choice.
Following a Baylor run in the second inning, Katelynn Carwile doubled in the third and came around to score off a Julia Cottrill single. For Carwile, Friday marked her 10th consecutive game reaching base.
The Cowgirls pushed another two runs across in the fourth. Karli Petty had an RBI single, followed by an Evans sacrifice fly that extended the lead to four.
The two teams play again Saturday and Sunday in Waco, with tomorrow night’s 7 p.m. game on national television on ESPN.
