Cowgirl Softball Routs Iowa State in Series Finale
AMES, Iowa – Kelly Maxwell and a seven-run sixth inning helped the No. 6 Oklahoma State softball team run rule Iowa State, 11-1, on Sunday at the Cyclone Sports Complex.
With the win, OSU improved to 31-7 and 8-1 in the Big 12.
Kelly Maxwell (13-1) bounced back after recording her first loss of the season Saturday. She tallied 13 strikeouts, her ninth double-digit strikeout game of the season. It also marked her 10th complete game this season, a team best.
Third baseman Sydney Pennington made her 245th consecutive start, marking a program record for most starts in a career.
Hayley Busby and Chyenne Factor both had three hits in the contest. The duo was also responsible for five Oklahoma State runs.
The Cowgirls struck first for the second time in the series, pushing across two runs in the second inning. Sydney Pennington recorded an RBI groundout, scoring Julia Cottrill. Factor followed with a single to right field bringing home another OSU run.
Oklahoma State added two more in the fifth on two Iowa State errors.
The Cowgirls' offense exploded in the sixth with seven runs. The inning started with three base hits to load the bases. Two more Iowa State errors, a wild pitch, and a fielder's choice scored five runs before Busby doubled in another. Taylor Tuck followed with an RBI single.
OSU takes on Kansas in a three-game series starting Thursday.
