STILLWATER – Following a stellar 2021-22 season, Oklahoma State checks in at No. 13 in ESPN’s annual preseason Football Power Index ranking.

The Cowboys are one of just three Big 12 teams listed in the top 25.

ESPN Preseason FPI: Big 12 teams

  • No. 6 Texas
  • No. 8 OU
  • No. 13 Oklahoma State
  • No. 19 Baylor
  • No. 27 Iowa State
  • No. 39 Kansas State
  • No. 42 TCU
  • No. 48 Texas Tech
  • No. 52 West Virginia
  • No. 97 Kansas

ESPN’s FPI predicts the Cowboys will finish with an 8.5-3.8 record and a 97.6% chance of finishing with at least six wins. They also give the Pokes a 14.1% chance of winning the Big 12 title, a 4.3% chance of making the playoffs, a 1.1% chance of making the national title game and 0.2% chance of winning the title.

There’s only four teams on the list, Alabama (30.1%), Ohio State (27.4%), Georgia (22.7%) and Clemson (11.1%) that have a double-digit chance of winning a title.

The Cowboys are fresh off a 12-2 season in 2021-22, which they capped with a 37-35 win over Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl.

They had the best record conference record at 8-1, which included a 37-33 win over Oklahoma in Stillwater and ranked wins over Kansas State (31-20), Baylor (24-14) and Texas (32-24).

The season earned the Pokes a berth into the BIg 12 title game against Baylor, but the came up a few feet short in the end as they fell to the Bears 21-16.

The 2022-23 season kicks off on Sept. 1 as the Pokes host Central Michigan. Kickoff time and possible TV coverage has yet to be announced.

Good news but again, perpetually, Texas is ranked higher?! Bound to be right some year if they keep predicting this I guess. And if you count OU and Texas as SEC teams, 13 SEC teams are ranked in top 25.

If you want to make a ton of money, bet the under on Texas win total if this is what the official number from Vegas looks like!
