STILLWATER – After Monday night’s addition of Louisiana-Monroe transfer Russell Harrison and last week’s addition of talented High Point guard John-Michael Wright; Oklahoma State and head coach Mike Boynton may be looking for one or two more transfers for the upcoming season. Avery Anderson III is still in limbo having declared for the NBA Draft, but so far without hiring an agent. A player that we know Oklahoma State has been in contact with and will be making a decision soon is Texas State shooting guard Caleb Asberry.

We saw head coach Mike Boynton at the Cowboys vs. Cancer Golf Classic on Monday where he and assistant Larry Blunt were the second highest bid on celebrities with a bid of $6,500. We caught up with Boynton on the course where he confirmed that his staff, while not allowed to be on the road, is taking visitors and is active.

Asberry posted on his Twitter account (@CalebAsberry2) that it is coming. It being a decision on his next school.

Asberry is originally out of nearby Plugerville, Texas and played at Ranger Junior College before landing at Texas State. The 6-3, 170-pound Asberry has been a two-time NABC All-District selection, a two-time All-Sun Belt Conference selection (third-team in 2021 and first-team in 2022), and a three-time Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week.

Asberry shooting a three.

This past season he averaged 13.6 points per game, 4.5 rebounds a contest, and 2.1 assists a game. He scored a season high 26-points at the end of the regular season in a game at Troy and was a perfect six-for-six from beyond the arch. On the season he shot 43.3 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from three-point range.

Besides Oklahoma State, there have been a number of schools chasing Asberry in the portal including Georgetown, UTSA, Loyola-Chicago, Mississippi, Wichita State, Wyoming, Western Kentucky, Texas, and Tulsa.

He led Texas State in minutes and is a durable player and is labeled a scrappy defender.
