Watch: Oklahoma State Set To Face Clemson in Stillwater Super Regional
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State softball is set to face off against Clemson in the NCAA Stillwater Super Regional, with things kicking off on Thursday, May 26, at 8:30 p.m. CT.
Both games are scheduled to air on ESPN2, with the if-necessary third game being scheduled if needed.
“We’re ready to go,” said head coach Kenny Gajewski. “It’s been kind of a weird week with the weather and not having a chance to be outside, but this team is used to handling weird things or weather or days off or taking a trip. I thought our work in the batting cages were really good. I thought our defensive work was really good as well. Looking forward to an amazing crowd and an amazing environment for the next couple of days.”
This series will mark the first time these two programs will have met on the diamond.
This marks the third-straight Super Regional appearance for the Cowgirls, also marking the second-straight hosting in Stillwater with a third-straight trip to the Women’s College World Series on the line.
The No. 7 Cowgirls are fresh off winning three-straight games in the Stillwater Regional this past week, a 12-0 run rule win over Fordham, a 7-4 win over Nebraska and a 2-0 win over North Texas.
As for No. 10 Clemson, the Tigers are coming off a 9-0 win over UNC Wilmington, a 1-0 win over Auburn and an 8-0 win over Louisiana to advance out of their regional.
“When you have Valerie Cagle, you can be good; then they’ve added depth,” Gajewski said of Clemson.
Cagle is one of the top two-way players in the country. On the season, Cagle averaged .306 form the plate, while leading the Tigers with 44 RBIs and scoring 34 runs on the year. She’s currently sitting with 55 hits on the year, with 10 doubles, one triple and 13 homers.
She’s just as dominant in the circle. The sophomore is sitting with a 2.05 ERA through 30 appearances on the season, which includes 15 complete games, including three saves. She’s recorded 16 wins, and has seven solo shutouts on the year, which currently leads the ACC.
During her 30 appearances, Cagle has recorded 172 strikeouts in 153.2 innings pitched, which includes a season-high 13 strikeouts in a 4-3 win over Tennessee earlier this year.
