STILLWATER – There have been a few reports the past couple of weeks of Avery Anderson III pulling his name from the NBA Draft process. While there hasn’t been anything official about Avery returning, that was confirmed by Cowboy basketball via Twitter on Wednesday.
With Avery now back with the program, Mike Boynton and Co. are operating at 12 scholarships.
This past season as a junior, the guard out of Justin, TX, led the team in scoring with 12.1 points a game on 40% shooting from the floor. He also shot 32% from beyond the 3-point like. Those numbers are similar to what Anderson III averaged as a sophomore when he posted 12.2 points and 4.0 rebounds a game.
This past season, Avery dropped a career-high 34 points against Iowa State on Jan. 26, while also dropping a career-high five made 3-pointers and 11 attempts, while shooting 11-of-13 from the free throw line.
This needs to be a big season for Anderson III. While he’s played quite well the past few seasons, the trio of Anderson III, Thompson and Cisse needs to be one of the top performing trios in the Big 12. The talent and experience is certainly there going into the 2022-23 season and showed up at times this past season.
