Big 12 Releases Annual Revenue Distribution Numbers

STILLWATER – The Big 12 spring meetings are currently taking place in Irving, Texas, with the current Big 12 schools, as well as the four new schools set to join the conference in the near future. The Big 12 announced on Friday the average revenue distribution for the current 10 schools for the 2021-22 fiscal year, which is $42.6 million per school.

That number is up about 20% from the 2020-21 COVID-impacted fiscal year, which saw each school receive $34.5 million. That number was down a bit from the 2019-20 fiscal year, which saw each school receive $37.7 million.

Even though BYU, Cincinnati, Houston and UCF were in attendance this week, they will not be on the receiving end of the money until they official join and begin competing in the Big 12.

While the numbers are still quite a ways off from the SEC and Big Ten, it certainly seems the Big 12 is headed in the right direction when it comes to revenue. Obviously, the conference will see an impact when the four new teams are officially added into the mix, as well as if and when OU and Texas finally make the move to the SEC.

Along with financial and future expansion/exit talk with the new schools and OU and Texas, one of the major storylines out of Friday is Texas Tech President Lawrence Schovanec announced the Big 12 hopes to announce a new commissioner at Big 12 Media Days in mid-July.

It was announced in early April current commissioner Bob Bowlsby will be stepping down following a 90-day transition period, which is slated to end the end of June, beginning of July.
