OSU Ranks No. 35 in First NET Rankings of the Year
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State hoops has started 2021 off with a bang: an overtime upset of No. 13 Texas Tech on the road and they check in at No. 35 in the initial NCAA NET rankings of the season.
The Big 12 has seven schools in the top 50 and eight of the 10 teams check in in the top 65.
- No. 2 Baylor
- No. 9 Texas
- No. 18 Texas Tech
- No. 27 Kansas
- No. 29 West Virginia
- No. 35 Oklahoma State
- No. 49 Oklahoma
- No. 65 TCU
- No. 203 Kansas State
- No. 209 Iowa State
The Cowboys got off to a hot start to the 2020-21 season with a 6-0 start, but then started Big 12 play with 0-2 with a 77-76 home loss to TCU and a 77-74 road loss to Texas. Imagine where the Pokes would be ranked had they gotten those two wins to start Big 12 play.
This does, however, include the Cowboys overtime road upset of No. 13 Texas Tech, which I’m sure bumped the Pokes up quite a few spots as Tech checks in at No. 18.
As for the Pokes’ big road win over Marquette, it appears that game is not really paying off as much as the Golden Eagles are now 6-5 on the season and check in at No. 63. Still a solid win though and looks good on a resume.
Should things continue the way they’re going, the Cowboys will be headed to Indiana for the tournament as the NCAA announced Monday morning March Madness will be played in its entirety in the Hoosier State.
The Cowboys have another tough task ahead of them on Monday night as No. 9 West Virginia comes to town for a Big Monday match-up at 8 p.m. CT on ESPN2.
