South Oak Cliff's Billy Walton Flips to Texas After Longhorn Visit

Oklahoma State lost a defensive commitment in the 2023 class on Monday evening.

Following a visit to Texas this past weekend, South Oak Cliff defensive end, Billy Walton III, took to Twitter to announce he’s decommitting from the Cowboys and then roughly 24 hours later flipped his commitment to Texas

Walton initially told Pokes Report this doesn’t mean Mike Gundy and Co. are out of the running and that OSU, SMU and Texas were all in the mix.

However, following his visit to Texas, which coincided with the Longhorns landing seven commitments in the past four days, Texas was riding the wave of the commitment of celebrated quarterback Arch Manning and seven other recruits that pledged over the weekend. On June 28 they officially Walton.

Walton, who committed to Oklahoma State on April 26, was a key piece on the SOC defense as the Golden Bears went 15-1 to win the Texas Class 5A-Division II state title. He finished his junior season recorded 55 total tackles, 21 tackles for loss and 12 sacks.

With the decommitment, the Cowboys now hold nine commitments in the 2023 class, including five on the defensive side of the ball.

Y'all two sound like broken records
actually, you are the one that sounds like a broken record.

TEAM ratings do not mean anything of merit, because of many factors, including the "size of the class", as Robert already told you.

recruiting ratings are a gimmick.... nothing more. It is click bait for the folks that don't want to take the time to understand recruiting.

just curious if you have any data about the success rates of kids taken in the Portal versus raw HS recruits?

I'm guessing you don't have anything and are just venting once again.

Robert,

I strongly agree with what you heard about "recruiting the portal". The problem is going to be players that will get paid for entering the portal. LSU (or a booster) paid you know who. The NCAA doesn't seem to want to do anything about this. So, big name schools with money are going to raid the rest of us.

Kip, all of that stuff you just mentioned is illegal.

I'm almost positive that NIL cannot be used directly for "recruiting".

it's been alleged that the Aggies did so with our player, but there has not been any direct evidence, and if evidence is found, the Aggies will be sanctioned.

Texas is in a "grey area" with some of their stuff like playing entire position groups, which is clear to potential recruits that they would have a guaranteed NIL deal for big bucks, even if they have no name recognition and no image to speak of... it's not even really pay-for-play, since they don't even have to play.

Let's put it this way cali. No team that finished outside of the regular top 13 in recruiting has won a national title in the same timeframe I used before. The Gundy era. So you can say it's a gimmick but no one in the Gundy era has won a national title recruiting like we do. Go check for yourself. The rankings are not 100 percent accurate but they do have some merit. The teams that recruit the best win the biggest it's that simple. Y'all can all deny it all you want and you can all wax roberts wheel all day but it doesn't change the fact that recruiting the way we do will not get us a national title. So again if we get worse then get used to being happy with 10 win seasons.

And that's being generous. Most teams during that same time frame were regular top 10 top 5 recruiting teams. So keep fooling yourself into thinking averaging between 30-40 is gonna get us there. I have never seen denial so bad lol

the Top 13? Now isn't that a peculiar number to settle on? Cherry Picking? Obviously. Why not a "standard", like top 10, or top 15 or top 20?

I never ever said that the rankings do not have merit, and neither did Robert. YOU added that. What was said was that if the player rankings were so accurate, then why do those programs that you're drooling over keep shedding those same "top ranked players" like they were yesterday's newspaper? What's with that? were they 5-star yesterday, but today they're suddenly not, because we have some new 5-star player coming in that is a better 5-star player than last year's 5-star player? Your whole premise does not make any sense.

So if we pick up those shed 4 and 5 star players, are we really only taking 3 star players through the portal? The rankings were wrong, and we're not getting 4-star quality portal players?

you can't have it both ways.

and there is much more if you're actually interested in listening

Good god you are ignorant. I researched all of it straight from 247 sports ranking site. Along with wiki on the last 18 teams to win it. You aren't even trying to make sense anymore. I don't remember the number but a large percent of those championship teams recruited top 10 or better. Only Clemson once or twice was outside of that. And it doesn't even matter because you are splitting hairs. The point is recruiting in the 30s will not get you there. You have to been way the **** up there in recruiting to win at that level. And those teams were not relying on the transfer portal. It's funny how smart you act all the time but then how far down you dumb yourself all of a sudden. Jesus

Like I said before and was right again you would just change the point. Like you continue to do. You are a disgrace to logic and sports fans everywhere. Have fun being a joke

Our record over the last decade doesn't add up with your doom and gloom recruiting math. Complain all you want, Chicken Little.
