Collin Oliver Named to Bednarik Award Watch List
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State defensive end Collin Oliver is one of 90 college football players named to the 2022 Bednarik Award watch list, the Maxwell Football Club announced on Monday morning.
This is the season preseason watchlist for the sophomore out of Edmond (OK) Santa Fe as he also made the Nagurski Trophy watch list in July.
Oliver is one of just eight sophomores named to the Bednarik Award watch list, which is given out annually to the top defensive player in the country.
This past season, Olive was one of the best freshmen in college football, while simultaneously turning in one of the best freshmen seasons in Oklahoma State history.
He was tabbed the unanimous Big 12 Freshman of the Year, while also earning multiple freshman All-American honors.
He finished the 2021 season with 29 total tackles, 20 of which were solo stops, which included leading the team with 15.5 tackles for loss and with 11.5 sacks, which included a two-sack game against Oklahoma. Oliver’s 11.5 sacks were seventh best among all FBS players this past season.
Semifinalists for the Bednarik Award will be announced on November 1, with the three finalists being announced a few weeks later on Nov. 22. As with most of the Player of the Year awards, the Bednarik Award winner will be announced as at the Home Depot College Football Awards on December 8, with the formal presentation being made at the 86th Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala on March 10, 2023.
