Mike Gundy Repeats Big 12 Media Days Message About OU and Texas

STILLWATER – There’s an ESPN article from Chris Low that’s been gaining quite a bit of traction on social media the past 24 hours.

In that article, Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy had some pretty strong words to say about OU and Texas leaving the Big 12.

"Let's just cut to the chase. They made a choice to financially secure their athletic departments for the next 12 to 15 years," Gundy told ESPN. "People can talk about all the reasons, but that's why they did it, all for the money, and took a lot of history out of this league and a lot of history out of college football with them.”

While they’re some strong words, it’s basically the same message Gundy gave at Big 12 Media Days back in July.

“We have a strong brand we have a successful winning tradition and a large number of people across the country that want to watch Oklahoma State football. And as we've all talked about, and we all understand, that's the direction that college football is going. That's where the money is. And the moves that are being made are only made for the money, period.”

“Well, the future of (Bedlam) is that there is a year or two left,” Gundy said. “I mean, that's the future, and it’s based on somebody else's decision.”

Are the quotes verbatim? No, but the only difference between Big 12 Media Days and the ESPN article is Gundy didn’t call OU and Texas out in front of the new Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark. Gundy toed the company line in front of the bosses, and I think that was the smart thing for him to do.

However, I will say it might mean more now because Gundy didn’t back down from his thoughts or the statements he made about Bedlam, OU and Texas at Big 12 Media Days. In fact, he doubled down and I think that’s going to make things really interesting once Big 12 play starts.

Is there a story there?

Gundy is just echoing what ever single OSU fan has already said, many probably to him.

THIS? is tearing up anti-social media?

I just went and read the ESPN article... it's pretty good.

A whole bunch of Gundy talking up OSU and restating why it's his forever job and how the fans and administration support the program.

oh, and one more thing....

I was mentioning Twitter to my 16 year old grandson and he looked at me sort of puzzled and said, "Twitter is still a thing?"

Both comments were really the same.....no smack talk, just reality. OU/UT left for the bigger payoffs, even if it means less likelihood of conference championships. OU needed money and UT likes money.

I don't see much smack talk here. He is just being honest. It is about the money. They get more and the rest of the league tries to recover.

No currant Big 12 team should ever schedule UT at Austin or UT at Norman in anything. You don't reward traitors. They can take the money and run and never come back!

I wouldn't be too quick to name people who leave one group for another traitors. Employees do it all the time to move up in their careers. Players do it in pro-sports (and now days college). And if OSU gets an SEC offer, appears they would likely jump on it too.
