STILLWATER – Call this a plus-minus story or a minus-plus story depending on how you look at it. I told you last Friday in our defensive review story that I came away even more impressed with new defensive coordinator Derek Mason. Mason came down at halftime breathing fire with the defense and looking for better output than allowing the 265-yards of total offense, most of it in the quick passing game the first half.

RA seemed fairly confident a couple of weeks ago regarding the Pokes superiority over ASU. He said on his radio show that he considered CM a more challenging opponent. I hope he's right. I wonder if his opinion has changed... I think we win but I think he is wrong about Central michigsn being the better team, I guess were fixin' to find out.

it's hard to draw comparisons with one game each, especially considering the wide disparity of competition.

CMU had the nation's leading rusher, a QB experienced in their system, decent OLines and were a 1-A caliber team.

ASU played a bad 1-AA team and demolished them. hmmmm. ASU has about 20 transfers that had not played together before, so they may have been given a bit of a "discount" on being a cohesive team, but the tune-up game seemed to get them working on the same page.

You are correct we will find out which opponent is/was better

If it's any indication, Vegas had CMU at -21, and has ASU at -12.5, so there is that.

I don't know about which team is better but I think Jim McIllwain and his staff may be one of the top three OSU goes against this year, I was extremely impressed the way they scheme and basically totally retooled their MO on offense against us! I also think Herm Edwards is a good coach but needs to learn the recruiting rules!
