Postgame Notes

  • Dominic Richardson led the Cowboys on the ground with 131 yards on a career high 27 carries. It is the third time in his career he has surpassed 100 rushing yards in a game. Richardson also tallied 44 yards on 5 catches, both career high marks.
  • Spencer Sanders had 322 yards of total offense. It is his third consecutive game with at least 300 yards of total offense, dating back to the Fiesta Bowl. Sanders has also been responsible for 13 touchdowns over the last three games.
  • With 54 rushing yards against Arizona State, Spencer Sanders continues to near the quarterback rushing record at OSU. Sanders now has 1,676 rushing yards in his career, needing just 194 more yards to overtake Brent Blackman’s record of 1,870 yards.
  • Oklahoma State’s 96-yard scoring drive late in the second quarter is the longest scoring drive for OSU since a 97-yard touchdown drive in the Texas Bowl against Texas A&M on Dec. 27, 2019.
  • The Oklahoma State defense has recorded 21 tackles for loss through two games this season. For comparison, OSU had 15 tackles for loss in the first two games of the 2021 season.
  • The Oklahoma State defense held Arizona State 0 of 9 on third down attempts to start the game. The ASU offense finished the game 2 of 13 on third down (15.3%).
  • The Cowboy pass rush got consistent pressure on Emory Jones, recording three sacks and 10 quarterback hurries.
  • Last year, Collin Oliver ranked seventh in the FBS with 11.5 sacks. He picked up his second of this year on the last play of the first quarter against Arizona State. Oliver now has at least one sack in seven of the last eight games.
  • Bryson Green surpassed his previous career highs in catches and receiving yards with 7:20 left in the third quarter. He finished the game with 5 catches for 83 yards, including a 31-yard touchdown reception that marked the longest catch of his career.
  • Oklahoma State’s game captains were Spencer Sanders, Mason Cobb, Braydon Johnson and Matt Hembrough.
  • Spencer Sanders’ streak of 122 consecutive passes without an interception ended late in the first quarter. His streak is the eighth longest in program history.
  • Brock Martin forced the first fumble of his career in the second quarter with a hit on ASU’s Xazavian Valladay that was recovered by Tyler Lacy on Arizona State’ 37-yard line.
  • Following Martin’s forced fumble, OSU went on a five play, 37-yard scoring drive that was capped off with Dominic Richardson’s second touchdown of the season. The Cowboys ran the ball on all five plays, averaging 7.4 yards per carry on their way to the end zone.
  • After giving up a field goal on their first possession of the game, the Cowboy defense held the Sun Devils scoreless for the remainder of the first half. OSU forced five punts and recovered a fumble on ASU’s final six drives to close the half.
  • OSU’s nine touchdown drives of two minutes or less this season leads the FBS.
  • Tanner Brown converted field goals of 43 yards and 24 yards on his first two attempts of the season.
  • Oklahoma State has outscored its opponents, 45-8, in the second quarter this season.
  • Oklahoma State’s offense found its groove in the second quarter, scoring on three of four possessions in the quarter. The Cowboys totaled 147 yards and 17 points on their final three possessions of the half after only gaining 105 on their first five drives of the game that resulted in four punts and an interception.
  • Braydon Johnson’s catch of 43 yards in the third quarter marked his third reception this season and 11th of his career that has gone for 40 or more yards.
  • Ollie Gordon scored his first touchdown of his career on a 14-yard reception at the 7:41 mark in the fourth quarter.
  • If the Cowboys are ranked in the top 10 of tomorrow’s AP poll, it will mark 11 out of the last 15 seasons OSU has seen a top 10 ranking in the AP poll at some point during the season.

  • Improved its home winning streak to 10 games, matching the longest streak in school history. The only other 10-win home winning streaks came from 2002-03 and from 1911-13.
  • Made it 2-0 for the sixth consecutive season.
  • Moves Spencer Sanders to 26 wins as the starting quarterback at Oklahoma State. He trails only Mike Gundy (28) and Mason Rudolph (32) for most career wins in program history.
  • Improved its non-conference home winning streak to 11 games, matching the third-longest streak in school history and the longest since the 15-game streak from Sept. 19, 2009 – Sept. 3, 2016.
  • Improved its all-time record against Arizona State to 2-2 and its record vs. ASU in Stillwater to 1-1.
  • Improved Mike Gundy’s record against Pac-12 teams to 11-3.
  • Made it 21-2 in its past 23 non-conference games and 43-7 in its past 50 non-conference games.
  • Improved Mike Gundy 's record in non-conference games to 60-13.
  • Made it 16-2 in its past 18 games overall, dating back to the 2020 season.
  • Made it 150-68 in its history when playing as an AP-ranked team.
  • Made it 137-39 in its history when playing as a higher AP-ranked team than its opponent.
  • Made it 83-17 in its past 100 games vs. opponents outside of the AP Top 25, dating back to 2010.
  • Made it 36-2 in non-conference home games since 2005.
