Watch: Mike Gundy Addresses 63-7 Win Over Arkansas-Pine Bluff
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State rolled to an easy 63-7 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Saturday evening. So much so that head coach Mike Gundy did something he hasn’t done too often, which is pull his starters before the mid-way point of the second quarter.
Starting quarterback Spencer Sanders finished the game going 13-of-16 for 242 yards and four touchdowns through the air, giving him a passer rating of 290.8.
Coach Gundy met with the media following the game to discuss the win over UAPB and just how important it was to get a large majority of the backups significant snaps leading into the bye week ahead of the first Big 12 game of the season against Baylor.
“Our guys did a good job of taking care of business,” said coach Mike Gundy. “We talked about this last Saturday, that we understand on paper that we have a better team, but we need to prepare, practice, respect our opponent, and go out and play. I told the team after the game, just right now in the locker room, that I was proud of them for doing that and staying focused. They focused all week, they practiced well, started fast, and played well. It was a good opportunity to get a lot of young people in the game, get them some experience, and get them some reps. They practice too so it’s good to get them out there and get a little time. Obviously, it was a good night for us. We’ve got a pretty heavy week in our open week; we’ll practice quite a bit. Then we’ll give them two or three days off and we’ll come back and get ready for conference play with Baylor.”
