STILLWATER – Oklahoma State defensive end Trace Ford is back and in a big way as he was tabbed the Big 12 Special Teams Player of the Week following his performance against Arkansas-Pine Bluff.
This marks Ford’s first Big 12 weekly honor.
Less than three minutes into the game, Ford not only blocked a UAPB punt, but returned it for a touchdown, marking the Pokes’ first blocked punt for a touchdown since 44-21 win over No. 23 Boise State on Sept. 15, 2018.
Ford, who’s missed the last two years with two separate knee injuries, also recorded one quarterback hurry and pass break up apiece.
On the season, Ford has recorded two total tackles, one tackle for loss, two quarterback hurries and three pass break ups.
Oklahoma State Athletics Media Relations provided this wild special teams stat: “OSU now ranks second among FBS teams with 30 blocked kicks since the beginning of the 2013 season, and the Cowboys are also tied for first in the FBS in non-offensive touchdowns since the beginning of the 2020 season with 11.”
The Cowboys are off this week on a bye but will be back in action Oct. 1 to start Big 12 play against Baylor in Waco, TX. That game is currently in a six-day window.
