Jackson and Cowgirls Prepare for Bedlam, Cowgirls Lead Series 30-9-4
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State soccer is sitting at 9-1-2 heading into the one match of this week. It’s huge. Oklahoma State travels to Norman on Thursday, Oct. 6 for the Big 12 Conference Bedlam match. The non-conference match was weathered out with storms back on Aug. 28. Oklahoma State head coach Colin Carmichael said he really wished that match had been played, There was a big rowdy crowd like usual for Bedlam. The two teams have played twice for a number of years and the pattern is play and then adjust for the conference match.
The Cowgirls are having a strong season again, but there are a number of young players, freshmen including stellar goal keeper Jordan Nytes and forward Gracie Bindbeuttel that have never played a Bedlam match.
“Letting them know how important it is to everybody around here that we win that game,” Carmichael said of his message before the match. “Remind them of the history and that there are a lot of players that have played here to make sure we were the dominant force in the state and remind them that it is never easy.
“Tell them to manage their emotions,” Carmichael added. “It is going to be intense and emtional, but they have to stay calm and be able to execute in those big moments. That will be our big advice to them going into the Bedlam match.”
I get that last bit of advice. You need to have an emotional check and calm down before even attending a Bedlam sporting event. It has often been said that heart patients attending had better have their medication handy. I asked Carmichael if he thought the older players had passed on the importance of this series.
“I would assume that they are making the freshmen understand how big it is,” he answered.
I gurantee you senior defender Ally Jackson has passed it on. Jackson was asked about this possibly being her final Bedlam.
“Everyone get so excited for it. I personally love it and I’m sad it is my last one,” Jackson said. “It is super important to win this. I don’t think I’ve ever lost to them and we want to keep that streak going.”
Never lost to Oklahoma and here is possibly the final opportunity to stay perfect in Bedlam. Freshmen pay attention because Ally Jackson is finishing the journey you are just starting and should badly want to experience. Bedlam perfection.
