LAWRENCE, Kan. — Kansas was coming off a huge loss, the worst in the Bill Self era as head coach for the Jayhawks and the Cowboys had just rebounded on Wednesday from the worse loss at home for an OSU team to Texas Tech, when they beat UCF. Saturday reverted back to what many would say is more of the norm recently. Hunter Dickinson led KU with16 points and 11 rebounds and the No. 23 Jayhawks roared inside Allen Fieldhouse beating the Cowboys 96-64 on Saturday.

Kansas (18-9, 9-7 Big 12) was good on offense shooting 57.1% from the field and held OSU to just 36.7%. Kansas had its most 3-pointers in a game this season (14), surpassing the 11 the Jayhawks had in their season-opening victory over Howard. They were three makes away from the school record. Defensively, Kansas held the Cowboys to almost 30 points below their season average. They started the first half slowly before finally seizing control with a late run.

A big play in that process was when Dejuan Harris Jr. hit a three-pointer as KU held just a four-point lead at 23-19 with just under 9:00 left in the first half. That started a 19-2 run that blew open the game. In that run, Harris twice found KJ Adams for alley-oop dunks that ignited the Kansas crowd. They led by 29 at halftime and stretched it to as many as 39 points in the second half.

Lutz and Self shake hands.

Maybe the most anticipated moment of the afternoon’s game, televised nationally on CBS was when the two coaches shook hands. Reports on Friday in particular, from Berry Tramel of The Tulsa World was that Self and Oklahoma State were close to getting together on Self returning to his alma mater to coach last season.

Pokes Report knew of a meeting at the Oklahoma State University President’s residence and while it was discussed, our sources claim it was never as close as even a negotiation. Other sources, including Self on Friday were consistent with that version.

Oklahoma State was led by Bryce Thompson with 21 points. Oklahoma State continues to be winless on the road in the Big 12 and now they prepare to come home to face No. 8 Iowa State on Tuesday night.
