Watch: Mike Gundy Discusses 41-31 Win Over Texas Tech
STILLWATER – Mike Gundy met with the media following Oklahoma State’s 41-31 win over Texas Tech on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Cowboys moved to 5-0 on the season and 2-0 in Big 12 play.
“It sure was a fun game to watch,” said Mike Gundy. “Obviously, we had 190 offensive plays, 104 for them and 86 for us, a lot of plays and everyone got their money’s worth. So, we had special teams returned yards and penalty yards at an advantage, we were just under 60 so a little under half the field. We were plus turnovers and that’s really the big difference. On third downs we were 8-of-18, and they were 8-of-22. We were 1-of-1 on fourth and they were 4-of-7 on fourth. As I mentioned on Monday, this would be a challenge for us because we haven’t played a team that plays as up-tempo as this. So, we were learning on the run and had quite a few new guys who had to play defensively. We had a few guys get beat up, so we had to play some other guys defensively and they did a good job picking it up. I thought our defensive coaches made some really good adjustments at halftime. I think we held them to seven in the half and we scored 21. We didn’t rush the ball as well as we needed to rush the ball, but we did at the end of the game. Interestingly enough on the last drive when they knew we were going to run it, we rushed the ball better than we did in the other three quarters. It’s a great win for us. I think there’s a tremendous amount of parody in this league, we’re going to be seeing games like this every week. That’s what I told the team weeks ago, weekly, every other day and again today. Conditionings going to play a big factor in this, I think we were in really good shape at the end of the game, we had gas in the tank, we could roll. It gave us a chance to finish the game off. We can enjoy this one tonight and then tomorrow we have to get back to work to travel on the road to play a team that’s playing really good football.
