Cowboys Stay at No. 7 in AFCA/USA Today Poll
STILLWATER – Yes, I’m aware I led on the headline with the USA TODAY/AFCA Coaches Poll and more people and more media outlets lead with the Associated Press poll, but I’m sorry I have much more respect over the years for the AFCA Poll which truly is united with the College Football Playoff and the crowning of the most recognized national champion. Look at the two polls for week seven next to each other can compare them. The A.P. poll had many more changes including at the top. The pollsters in the medai poll look for drama and so they dropped an Alabama team, which just last week moved ahead of Georgia when the Bulldogs struggled at Missouri. The Crimson Tide struggled at home with Texas A&M while playing their back-up quarterback. A good win over a team that has been up and down, so the Tide moved down not just to second but third.
Oklahoma State moved down in the A.P. poll from No. 7 to No. 8 despite a hard fought 10-point win over a good Texas Tech team. From a personal standpoint I loathe the drama that the media involved put into their poll and I like the consistency I see in the coaches poll.
Oklahoma State has been ranked in the top 15 of every Associated Press poll since October 3, 2021, which is a total of 18 consecutive sets of rankings. The streak sets a program record, surpassing the stretches of 17 consecutive rankings from the 2016-17 season and the 2010-11 season.
The Big 12 has six teams in the coaches poll with TCU moving up to No. 15 and now next Saturday in Fort Worth, Texas the 5-0 Cowboys will play the 5-0 Frogs on national television on ABC at 2:30 inside Amon Carter Stadium.
Also in the USA Today poll the Kansas State Wildcat (16), Kansas (20), Baylor (23), and Texas (24) are ranked. All of those teams except Baylor made the top 25 for Associated Press. TCU was up to No. 13 in the A.P. Poll.
