Spencer Sanders Named to Davey O’Brien QB Class of 2022
STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State quarterback Spencer Sanders was named to the Davey O'Brien QB Class of 2022 Tuesday, making him one of 40 FBS quarterbacks to receive the honor.
The designation makes him eligible to be selected as one of 16 semifinalists for the Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award later this month.
The conference leader in total offense with an average of 315 yards per game, Sanders is one of three players from the Big 12 included in the class.
After being named the 2021 first team All-Big 12 quarterback, Sanders has continued to put up impressive numbers this season. He now ranks among the top 25 FBS players in total offense, points responsible for and passing yards.
Sanders career numbers are even more impressive. He has 30 wins and needs two more to tie Mason Rudolph for the most as a starting quarterback in OSU history. His 10,996 career yards of total offense are No. 2 in OSU history and No. 2 among all active FBS non-super seniors. He ranks among the top five players in OSU history in career passing yards, passing yards per game, completion percentage and more.
He is also the only player in OSU history and one of three active FBS players with at least 9,000 passing yards and 1,500 rushing yards in his career.
Sanders, who also holds the OSU career record for quarterback rushing yards, finished 2021 as the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl Offensive MVP and 2020 as the Cheez-It Bowl MVP. He has progressively increased his total offense average and thrown a lower percentage of interceptions in every year of his career. His touchdowns-responsible-for to turnovers-responsible-for ratio has also improved each season.
