Brennan Presley's Not Focused on Last Year's Bedlam Performance
STILLWATER – Less than a minute into the second quarter of Oklahoma State’s 37-33 Bedlam win over Oklahoma last season, Brennan Presley cemented himself as a hero of Bedlam lore.
Following a 29-yard touchdown pass from Caleb Williams to Austin Stogner, the then-sophomore out of Bixby fielded a kickoff and returned it 100 yards for a touchdown, making several Sooners miss in the process and giving Oklahoma State fans a highlight reel for the ages.
While it was one of the key plays for the Pokes a year ago, Presley said he doesn’t think about that play too often, stating that it doesn’t help this year’s team.
"I really don't think about it. Sometimes, I even forget that I made it. I don't want to get in that head space of thinking about the past, I just want to focus on the present, the now. Everything that I did last game, and last year, is not going to help us this year. We got to go out there and make our new plays, new statements and everything like that. We just got to come out there and attack it. "
This is an important Bedlam game for the Cowboys for a few reasons. First, and most important, it gives them another win against the Sooners, something that hasn’t happened too often for the Pokes. It would also mean the second-straight Bedlam win for the Pokes, something else that hasn’t happened too often.
Third; not only would it be a win in Norman, something I don’t have to tell you about, but it would keep the Sooners from becoming bowl eligible for another week as they currently sit at 5-5 on the season. While that’s not too important to this Cowboy team, it would be for the fanbase. It would give Cowboy fans another feather in the Bedlam cap and just a little bit more to talk about around the Thanksgiving table when divided families gather next week.
Nothing quite like a little Bedlam banter. This is a very important rivalry, no matter what SEC talking heads try to tell you. Heck, the 6:30 p.m. CT timeslot on ABC tells you all you need to know about the national importance of this game, no matter what the rankings or records tell you.
While it’s important to the fanbase, it’s also important to the players, especially players from Oklahoma. Especially with there being a looming pause in the game with OU moving to the SEC.
"I think it does personally for me because I grew up with this rivalry,” said Presley. “Having played in it and now seeing what its come to, being in this phase where it's coming to an end, being in the position of where I can affect the outcome, it just makes it that much more special. But the game is always going to be a special game no matter who's playing, where we're playing at, anything like that. We could play in a backyard, and it would still be the same emotional effect, it's always going to be Bedlam."
