UPDATED: Oklahoma State Lands Commitment from Northside Defensive Back RJ Lester
(This article has been updated with quotes from Lester)
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State has landed its fourth defensive back commitment of the 2023 class. Robert “RJ” Lester took to Twitter Saturday morning to make it official.
Lester is a 6-2, 185-pound defensive back out Fort Smith (AR) Northside. According to On3, Lester is listed as the No. 63 overall safety in the 2023 class and the No. 3 overall prospect out of Arkansas, regardless of position.
He currently holds offers from Oklahoma State, Kansas State, Tulane and Tulsa.
“I really thought this was the best decision for me; they really wanted me there on their team and feel I could make a difference,” Lester told Pokes Report.
Lester was one of a handful of prospects in Stillwater on official visits during the Pokes’ regular season finale against West Virginia. He was also a long-time Kansas State commit, before he announced his decommitment on Monday, December 5.
“[My family] honestly wanted what made me happy,” Lester told Pokes Report. He’s planning on majoring in business and finance. He’s currently playing basketball in a basketball tournament in Kansas, which is where announced his commitment from.
Lester also told Pokes Report his head coach, Felix Curry, told him Oklahoma State would be the best fit for him. Curry might sound like a familiar name to Cowboy fans as Felix’s two sons, CJ and Darius, both played football at Oklahoma State.
As a senior this past season, Lester recorded 44 total tackles and four interceptions.
As a junior, Lester recorded 58 total tackles and four interceptions, earning All-7A Central honors. What’s impressive about that is he played through a broke right hand, an injury he suffered in a summer basketball game, then broke his other hand in a game against Little Rock Southwest.
In a combine in early May, Lester posted a blistering 4.48 40-time, which came right around the time he posted a personal best 11.91 in the 100 meters at the 6A Central Conference Championships.
