STILLWATER – Here is the definition of a “late-bloomer” in recruiting as Tywon Wray Jr. was at Campbell High School in Smyrna, Ga. The Spartans did not have a particularly strong season and missed the playoffs, but the 6-3, 185-pound wide receiver/safety Tywon Wray Jr. came out of a strong offseason and playing basketball and track and blossomed this fall in football. Oklahoma State knew about him from recruiting connections including those for defensive coordinator Derek Mason. Wray Jr. visited officially this past weekend and committed before leaving.

Physically, Wray Jr. absolutely looks the part.

Just what are the Cowboys getting in Wray Jr? His junior season at Campbell he had 18 total tackles, 12 unassisted, and an interception. This past season he bumped the tackles up to 70 total covering sideline-to-sideline. He had eight passes defended, two fumbles forced, and five (!) interceptions.

Those represent huge increases from his junior season plus at wide receiver he caught 27 passes for 404-yards and three touchdowns.

Just look at Wray Jr. He is a strong student that is in the National Honor Society. His dad graduated from Ferris State and is an engineer. His mother went to Miami, Fla. and is a scientist.

His athletic numbers pop off the page as well. He lists a 4.43 in the 40-yard dash, a 39-inch vertical jump, a 315-pound bench press max, and a 500-pound max in the squat.

His offer list was modest before the Cowboys came onboard. He had offers from seven schools including Florida International, Mercer, Austin Peay, and East Tennessee State.

Tywon Wray Jr. would be set to sign on Wednesday, Dec. 21, the first day of the early signing period.
