Lot of Sadness with this Announcement as John Paul Richardson Announces TCU

STILLWATER – Despite knowing that there was a family discussion earlier this week about pulling his name from the NCAA Transfer Portal, I knew that the odds were this was going to happen. Former Oklahoma State slot receiver and sophomore captain John Paul Richardson announcing his new school.

I believe he means all that he said in that announcement. I will look forward to opportunities to see him.

John Paul Richardson against Texas.

I’ve told anyone that asked and everybody that listens to my radio show that when John Paul Richardson announced he was going in the transfer portal that it was a kick in the gut to me. I’ve really enjoyed this young man and the kind of person and the level of player he is. This is a high quality young man. I will miss his dad, former Texas A&M quarterback Bucky Richardson and his lovely mom Tracy. Good people and a good family.

If there is a right way to depart in the transfer portal, and I’m not sure there is, John Paul Richardson did it as right as you could. He’ll now be coached by former Oklahoma State player and assistant coach Doug Meacham, who also was in on recruiting Richardson early out of Ridge Point High School. I will root for JPR just not to beat Oklahoma State. I really wish this one hadn’t left, but that is the day and the age of the transfer portal.

Who knows if it's all true and you can't believe everything you read, but I've seen and heard stuff about Dunn forcing guys to play positions that they don't play and being overly harsh to players. Why else would a guy that just got voted a captain leave unless it's coaching? He was one of my favorites. Good luck JPR

Nice young man, was surprised he didn't end up at his Dads alma mater but good luck to him, I personally enjoyed watching him play

They are usually pretty upfront with guys about being recruited to play slot or on the outside! He will be missed because he was also a good blocker!

There have been several articles about how Dunn recruits specific types of players to play the slot and specific type of players to play the outside. JPR is a slot player in OSU's system. He knew the going in. He stated he wanted to be the number 1 receiver on the team. I loved his grit and play here at OSU, however, I am not convinced he could be considered the "GO TO" receiver. That seams to fall to the bigger outside receivers we've had. Best of luck to him.

Ok, Robert, what the heck is going on within the program? I know you are a homer, but a little transparency from someone would help.
With all of the transfers happening something is not right. Our receiving group has taken a major hit this year, and something is not right. A person like JPR doesn't just up and leave. If Dunn is the problem, just say so.
You would think someone within the program would enlighten us, but nothing but silence. You all want the stadium packed, and if I may say so, the fans are stakeholders for this program, and we deserve some explanations whether Gundy likes it or not.

Goodbye....I hope you are 4th team, when you play OSU, and if you get on the field you drop everything thrown your way. Next Cowboy up!!! GO POKES!!!

More hollow words were never spoken. At this point, who's JPR?

Don't know, don't care.

What I meant was he came in as a slot guy and Dunn moved him to the outside. It's also out there young Presley left because of Dunn. Who knows, but Dunn seems to be the problem. The longer Dunn stays the worse Gundy looks.

Your posts have no support or proof from anyone. If you knew what you were talking about, someone might listen. But making unsupported accusations mean nothing.

Look at OU and T A&M portals. Last year TCU brought in 20 guys and look where they are.

Pressley drops almost everything thrown to him and is too small to play RB in the Big 12. Good luck to him at Tulsa.

In the words of Pat Jones, "if they don't want to be at some school, then get on." I agree. There are tons of receivers out there and many as or more talented than the ones that left. We are probably better with the replacements and no worse off.

Transfers From OSU to other Big 12 schools that we face next year: 4. (5, if rumours of Green to OU happens)
Transfers from OSU to other P5 schools : 7

Transfers from other Big 12 schools to OSU: 0
Transfers from other P5 schools to OSU: 2

Did you read the parts that said: Who knows and you can't believe everything you read? Must not have. Read a little more before jumping on someone.

It doesn't really matter at this point because they are no longer on the team! Believe me if there was an issue of this type Bucky Richardson would have addressed it with Mike! Believe me Bucky is no wall flower and will make his point pretty emphatically if you have ever met him! I could see JP as a number 1 option for TCU next year because they lose their two starting receivers but it seems unlikely! Who knows, like I said, I really liked JP and hated to see him go! In the case of little Presley, it put his brother in a real tough situation as he is dating Dunns daughter!

With change of offensive scheme(Implementing true Tight ends and blocking scheme overhaul) it will reduce the number of plays with 2 small slots. Playing time behind Pressly might be slimmer.

I personally thought JPR was our best receiver. I wondered why he wasn't targeted more in many games.....especially losses. But I assume private schools in larger metro's are much richer in terms of NIL+ deals. And rich bluebloods will have to contend with them too. I read Georgia's NIL packages amount to an average per player of about $280k. It's now a pro football league with virtually no equalizer rules and no player Unions to agree to salary caps and transfer controls.

That's an odd situation for Presley for sure! Hopefully the injuries aren't such an issue next year and Dunn redeems himself.

Seems like the portal being immediate eligibility plus the huge NIL deals is too much. One or the other

There are LOTS of factors in these transfers, likely some similarities and many differences for each.

I do want to point out the NIL deals that I've heard mentioned.
Cobb to USC $300K
Sanders was getting $400K
T, Harper $200K to ND

I think college athletics as we know it is dead and we're just seeing rigormortis twitching right now.

My prediction is major metro located schools like TCU, SMU, Houston, Rice will accelerate NIL poaching and accelerate to the top ranks. Essentially buying rosters.

Mega schools like Ohio State, Michigan, Texas, Georgia, Bama, USC will become untouchable. Can even an OU or LSU really compete? I'm not sure they can.

For Heavens sake Thomas Harper landed $200K at ND where he will likely be 2nd string and roll player.
Sanders $400k in Stillwater can't possibly be profitable for Clark and crew.

I'm sad about this.

Have you compared to other B12 schools?

I glanced at WVU on the smoking muskets. They've been decimated. Others perhaps as well.

We cannot afford to lose players like this.

I know we like JPR. But he's just a guy. If you really dig into the film, had a lot of issues with tight man coverage. I Wish him well except for when he plays OSU.
