STILLWATER – Former Oklahoma State quarterback Spencer Sanders is headed to the SEC.

After more than a month in the portal, Sanders told ESPN that he’s going to play for Ole Miss in 2023.

According to the tweet from Chris Low, Sanders also considered Auburn.

Sanders entered the portal shortly after the end of the 2022 regular season, a season in which he dealt with injuries throughout most of the season. He finished the year going 212-of-368 passing 2,642-yards and 17 touchdowns with nine interceptions.

For his career, Sanders completed 765-of-1,253 passing for 9,553-yards 67 touchdowns with 40 interceptions. He finishes his time in Stillwater second all-time in passing yards behind only Mason Rudolph, third all-time in total touchdowns (85) behind Rudolph and Zac Robinson and third all-time in passing touchdowns being Rudolph and Brandon Weeden.

Pokes Report has learned Sanders is currently enrolled in seven hours at OSU in order to get to Ole Miss at the end of the spring semester.

well, no wonder he had trouble, he hasn't completed his coursework, and can't join his new team until this summer.

Wow. Traded in a lock on starting, setting all OSU records,, and $400k NIL to be a 1 year backup. Sad for Sanders.

even if the grass is greener, you quickly learn that it only means there is more grass to mow

Let's see. Ole Miss's starter from last year Jaxson Dart (3,000 yds, 20 TDs, 10 ints, 650 yds rushing, a better season than Sanders) returns next year. Walker Howard is transferring to Ole Miss from LSU. Under new NCAA rules, neither can transfer again without sitting a year, so both are there to stay. Also, both QBs will get Spring practice and both QBs will participate in off season workouts and training while Sanders won't get on the practice field until August. And when he gets there, I would guess he'd be lucky to get 40% of the first team snaps, probably more like 25% or less because I don't see them cutting the returning starter's snaps, all the while trying to learn a new offense with the obvious goal of winning the starting job?

Maybe Ole Miss was just the best option from a list of not so great options. Oh well, actions have consequences. Good luck with all that, he'll need it.

Sanders is not actually a "transfer" until he shows up on campus or takes aid, is he?

Can't he renege on Ole Miss and commit to another school if he so chooses?

this stuff is so convoluted

I think he's not an official transfer until the first to occur, either 1) he attends a class, or 2) signs the financial aid package.

So technically, he's just like a HS recruit thats just "committed" but is not obligated until one of the above occurs. I suppose he could sill withdraw his commitment, and just decide to go anywhere.

LOL, LOL, LOL - Left a starting QB position to be a third stringer at Ole Miss, great move Spencer, not sure who is advising him, but he should look elsewhere... My guess is that after 45 days in the portal he needed to commit somewhere (without really committing) in order not to look like no-one wanted him, I will be surprised if he stays at Ole Miss. He should look into an FCS school were he can kill it and have a long shot at the NFL

Easy for young people to see $$$ signs! I would imagine agents are playing on them.

Perhaps as more players have a bad portal experience, the fewer players will enter into it.

Seems a bit of fatigue was involved with the class issue and the decision. That probably really hurt him as schools wanted him in for spring practice.

I wouldn't be surprised to find him somewhere other than Ole Miss this summer. He can now sit back and wait to see who loses a QB over the spring and be a solution for someone.
