STILLWATER – Oklahoma State will be without its starting point guard for the foreseeable future. Mike Boynton announced during Monday’s media availability Avery Anderson III is scheduled to have surgery Wednesday on his wrist.

Anderson first injured his wrist in the 56-46 loss to No. 6 Texas in Stillwater back on January 7.

“Got another look at Avery’s wrist and it’s going to require surgery, which is going to put him out indefinitely,” said Mike Boynton. “You deal with different bumps in the road throughout a season; obviously, this is another one for us.

“We don’t know the timetable on return, so we’ll see kind of how that goes and kind of go from there.”

Anderson III has played a pivotal role in the Pokes’ success this season as he’s second on the team in scoring at 11.1 points per game on an impressive 40% from the field and 82% from the free throw line. He’s also averaging 3.5 rebounds per game and leading in assists with 3.4.

He earned his first Big 12 Player of the Week honor the final week of January following his performances against OU and Iowa State.

“He’s really, really important to our team, has been for four years,” Boynton said of Anderson. “He’s disappointed, but we’re encouraged that the surgery is going to be something that’s – I don’t know if there’s such a thing as minor surgery, surgery’s surgery – but it’s not a knee, it’s his off-hand. It’s something he’s going to be able to recover from and be able to play again.”

Guard Caleb Asberry earned the start this past weekend against TCU in the absence of Anderson. The Cowboys will be back out on the court on Wednesday, February 8th, as they play host to Texas Tech. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT and will stream on ESPN+.
