Oklahoma State Softball Claims 3-2 Win Over North Carolina
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – In her Oklahoma State debut, Alabama transfer Lexi Kilfoyl struck out 12 batters in 6.1 scoreless innings, hit a home run and drove in all three runs to lead the third-ranked Cowgirls to a 3-2 win over North Carolina at the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge Saturday evening.
With the win, OSU improved to 2-0 and UNC fell to 2-2.
Kilfoyl's two-run blast to center in her first OSU at-bat put the Pokes up, 2-0. She then struck out the side in the bottom half of the inning, her first in the circle for the Cowgirls.
In the fifth inning, Kilfoyl drove in freshman Tallen Edwards with a single to expand the OSU advantage to 3-0.
Freshman pitcher Kyra Aycock replaced Kilfoyl in the seventh. Following an OSU throwing error and two RBI singles, the Tar Heels trimmed their deficit to 3-2 and Kilfoyl was reinserted into the circle with two outs and runners on first and second. Kilfoyl struck out the last batter to end the game.
Making just her second career start, Edwards impressed once again. She went 2-for-3 in the batter's box, with two singles and a run scored.
Kilfoyl tied multiple career-highs tonight with three RBI, two hits and her homer in the first inning. Her starting appearance marked the 14th time she's held an opponent scoreless with at least five innings pitched.
The Cowgirls return to action with a pair of games against Maryland and Ole Miss tomorrow at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. CT, respectively. Both games will be streamed on FloSoftball and can be heard locally on 105.5 KGFY with Brodie Myers.
