it's one thing to have awesome pitching, but when you can back it up with a string of run-rule games, then we're on to the potential of absolute greatness!
GO LADIES!!
Clearwater, Fla. – Grand slams from Kiley Naomi and Morgyn Wynne propelled the No. 5 Oklahoma State softball team to a 12-2 run-rule victory over No. RV/22 Louisiana in five innings Saturday morning.
With the win, the Cowgirls improved to 7-1 and the Cajuns fell to 5-2.
All-American Kelly Maxwell struck out 10 batters in five innings to secure the win for the Cowgirls and improve to 4-0 on the season.
Trailing, 2-0, the Cowgirls loaded the bases in the top of the third for Naomi, who blasted her first career grand slam and her fourth homer of the season to put OSU up, 4-2. Naomi's grand slam marked the continuation of a personal hot streak. In the last four games against Texas A&M, Nebraska, Virginia Tech and Louisiana, she has four home runs and 10 runs batted in.
Freshman Katie Lott extended the OSU advantage to 5-2 with her first collegiate home run in the fourth.
A two-RBI double from Katelynn Carwile and Wynne's two-out grand slam on an 0-and-2 count brought the game into run-rule territory in the fifth inning, with freshman Lexi McDonald adding an RBI single for further insurance.
OSU returns to play at 12:30 p.m. CT today against No. 25/RV Michigan. All games of the TaxAct Clearwater Invitational will be streamed across the ESPN networks or streamed on ESPN+.
