Cowboys Land Future Quarterback In Lone Star's Garret Rangel
The news has finally hit as 2022 Frisco Lone Garret Rangel quarterback has committed to the Cowboys!
This is the silent commitment that has been swirling for a few weeks now, committing to the Cowboys staff back on Monday, January 25. He went to Twitter to go public with his decision. In his post, he wrote, “I am blessed to see my dream of playing at the next level come true. Thank you Coach Gundy and Coach Rattay for believing in me and giving me the opportunity. Thank you to Coach Rayburn and all of the many coaches who have helped me grow and learn on and off the field. To all the great fans of Oklahoma State... let’s go win a Champiosnship!”
Rangel is a big time commitment for the Pokes, signifying the first quarterback commitment since the class of 2020. And honestly, it is a slam dunk addition.
In two varsity seasons, as a sophomore and junior, Rangel has accumulated 7,284 passing yards with 77 touchdowns and only 15 interceptions. In his junior season, he threw only five interceptions on 270 pass attempts. He has a career completion percentage just below 70% and has an impressive passer rating of 133.5.

The Cowboys were Rangel’s first power 5 offer back on April 16th and has remained at the top of his recruitment since then. He holds 10 total offers and has begun to garner interest from dozens of top programs around the country.
I have had a feeling for a while that Oklahoma State could be his choice so I simply asked him what his feelings for the Cowboys were and he responded with a straight forward “Man oh man I love OSU, I talk to Coach Rattay all the time.”
As passing for more than 7,000 and 77 touchdowns in two seasons would suggest, the 6’3 Rangel is an extremly polished thrower and both on film and in person, his best attribute is his deep ball, which shows zero flaws. His best comparison at this time is to Cowboy quarterback legend Mason Rudolph. Obviously being 175 pounds, the comparison does not come from a physical standpoint but comes from a playstyle and attributes standpoint. I’m not sure his frame will get close to Rudolph’s 235 pounds but his frame will certainly do wonders under the Rob Glass program.
I have watched Garret Rangel on two seperate occasions this season while also watching now Oklahoma State running back signee Jaden Nixon, who have been teammates the past two seasons. He was also the highschool quarterback for now OU phenom freshman Marvin Mims, who Rangel helped set the Texas High School receiving record.

This marks the 7th public commitment for the Pokes in the 2022 class, the 4th on the offensive side of the ball, joining Beggs, Oklahoma, running back CJ Brown, Euless, Texas, running back Ollie Gordon, and Pawhuska, Oklahoma, wide receiver Mason Gilkey.
It is expected that because neither Spencer Sanders or Shane Illingworth lost eligibility in the 2020 season and Gunnar Gundy is now on the roster, that the Cowboys will only take one quarterback in this 2022 class. I would also not be surprised if Rangel sparks a domino effect in this recruiting class and more commitments follow before the summer begins, especially ones in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, which happens to be where a large amount of Oklahoma State targets reside.
