Game Flow

  • Moussa Cisse put the Cowboys up 2-0 in the first minute with a post-fade move in the lane.
  • Seven early points from Tyreek Smith led the Cowboys, but three made three-pointers from Youngstown St. gave it a 13-11 lead.
  • A block by Kalib Boone led to a fastbreak finish at the rim for Boone, bringing the Penguins’ lead down to 21-19 with 6:48 remaining.
  • A 9-4 Penguin run opened the lead to 30-23 in favor of Youngstown State, but Tyreek Smith continued to cause havoc on the boards, already with 11 points and seven rebounds.
  • The Cowboys’ first three-pointer of the game came from Caleb Asberry and was followed up by a Quion Williams put-back layup to bring the Penguin lead down to four points.
  • Caleb Asberry beats the halftime buzzer from way downtown to cut the Penguins lead to four, 37-33 at the break.
  • After another deep three-pointer from John-Michael Wright cut the lead to one, the Penguins scored six-straight points to go up 43-36.
  • A 6-0 Cowboy run brought OSU within two points with 11:35 remaining.
  • An and-1 layup from Quion Williams put the Cowboys on top for the first time since the first three minutes of the game, 54-52.
  • The Cowboys held on to that lead for the rest of the game, capturing the first road win in the NIT in program history, 69-64.

Game Notes

  • Head coach Mike Boynton went with Caleb Asberry, Bryce Thompson, John-Michael Wright, Moussa Cisse and Tyreek Smith as the starting-five for the fourth-straight game.
  • Tyreek Smith recorded his first-career double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Smith added one block, one steal and went 3-for-3 from the free-throw line.
  • Quion Williams also collected his first-career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebound. Williams' 11 rebounds set a new career-high, surpassing his previous high of seven against West Virginia.
  • Moussa Cisse grabbed his 12th career double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. The double-double was Cisse’s sixth of the season and the first since Dec. 20 against Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
  • OSU had three double-doubles for the first time since Nov. 14, 2009, against  Seattle.
  • Caleb Asberry has made 13 three-point field goals in the Cowboys past four games.
  • The Cowboys were relentless on the offensive glass all night, scoring a season-high 23 second-chance points.
  • All eight Cowboys who touched the floor made at least one field goal.
  • As a team, the Cowboys have reached at least two blocks in every game this season.
  • Oklahoma State is 18-3 when they shoot the same percentage or better than their opponent from the field this season.
  • OSU tied a season-high with 49 rebounds against the Penguins, the third-straight game the Cowboys have reached at least 45 rebounds.
