Cowgirls Take Down Texas as Oklahoma State Remembers the Ten

STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State's women's basketball team snapped a 12-game losing streak against Texas on Wednesday evening with a 68-51 win over the Longhorns inside Gallagher-Iba Arena.

The Cowgirls (11-5 overall, 7-3 Big 12) raced out to an early 8-2 lead behind back-to-back treys from sophomore Lauren Fields. OSU extended the margin to double digits at 19-8 with 90 seconds remaining in the quarter on another trey from junior Ja'Mee Asberry. The Longhorns (11-4, 5-3), who shot 29 percent in the quarter, would close the period with the final four points to get within seven.

OSU scored seven of the first nine in the second quarter to extend the margin back to 12. With less than two minutes left, Texas whittled the Cowgirl lead to four at 31-27 and got within one before senior Natasha Mack beat the buzzer with a layup to give OSU a 35-32 lead at the break.

The Cowgirls shot 52 percent in the half, while holding UT to a 32 percent clip from the floor.

In the third, OSU used a quick 6-0 spurt capped by a fast break layup from freshman Taylen Collins to move the margin back to nine at 45-36 and force a Longhorn timeout with 6:30 to go in the quarter. Another 3-pointer from Fields extended the margin back to a dozen with less than three minutes remaining.

The Cowgirls took a 55-40 lead into the fourth quarter after holding UT to eight points in the period.

OSU scored the first six points of the fourth quarter to push the lead to 61-40, forcing another Texas timeout. With less than four minutes remaining, the Longhorns scored five in a row to cut the margin to 64-50.

Mack led all scorers with 21 points to go with 15 rebounds and six blocks, marking her 10th double-double of the season. Asberry added 18 while, Fields finished the contest with 13 points.

The Cowgirls will be back in action on Jan. 30 when they travel to Lawrence, Kan., to take on Kansas at 4 p.m.
