Oklahoma State Softball Storms Past Tulsa With 9-1 Run-Rule Victory
STILLWATER – A six-run fifth inning lifted the No. 3/3 Oklahoma State Softball team to a 9-1 run-rule victory in six innings over Tulsa, Tuesday evening at Cowgirl Stadium.
With the win, OSU improved to 36-3 and TU fell to 16-21.
Ivy Rosenberry got the nod in the circle, improving to 5-2 on the year with 4.0 innings of work.
The Cowgirls plated a run in the first inning, for the 23rd time this season. An RBI groundout from Katelynn Carwile scored Chyenne Factor to put the Pokes on the board.
Tulsa responded with a run of their own in the top of the second inning to tie the game, one apiece.
OSU took the lead in the fourth inning; one they wouldn't relinquish as Kiley Naomi broke the deadlock with an RBI single that scored pinch-runner Haidyn Sokoloski.
The Cowgirls unleashed six runs in the fifth inning to bring the game to run-rule territory.
A leadoff single from Carwile opened the fifth inning, then pinch-hitter Tallen Edwards brought her around to score from first with an RBI double. Taylor Tuck followed up with a dpuble of her own, scoring Edwards and extending the lead, 4-1.
Rachel Becker extended her on-base streak to 39 games with an RBI single that scored Tuck, OSU's fifth run of the day and third of the inning. A Tulsa error and a bases-loaded walk scored two more as the Cowgirls' lead grew to 7-1.
Carwile rounded out the inning with an RBI groundout to put the Cowgirls ahead, 8-1, after five innings.
The Pokes tacked on their ninth run of the game in the sixth inning to end the game early, in run-rule fashion.
Leadoff batter Katie Lott started the inning with a single and was brought home by Scotland David's RBI fielder's choice to clinch the run-rule victory, 9-1.
OSU posted 12 hits on the as a team, which is the 19th outing this season in which the Pokes had double-digit hits.
