STILLWATER – Wearing the chief label of versatility on the defensive line, former Oklahoma State defensive end Tyler Lacy was selected with the 28th pick in the fourth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jags got Lacy with the 130th pick overall. Lacy was at home in Sachse, Texas with his family when his name was called.

Lacy had the highest projection from any credible draft source of any of the former Oklahoma State players pursuing a career in the NFL. The 23-year-old was projected in the fourth round to the Dallas Cowboys by Dane Brugler of The Athletic. Lacy went to the Senior Bowl in February and showed during the week that he was athletic enough to play at defensive end and big enough at 6-4 and 285-pounds to play as far inside as a three technique.  He also played well in the game producing some quarterback hurries and providing complimentary pressure that led to some big plays including a turnover.

Lacy trimmed up for the NFL Combine and ran a 5.11 in the forty and had a vertical of 28 ½-inches. He also finished with 30 reps on the bench press test. He showed his versatility.

As an Oklahoma State player, Lacy played primarily on the outside and was a starter in 10 games his redshirt freshman season with 20 tackles, two tackles for loss, and a sack. He went on to be named a three-time honorable mention All-Big 12 player by the coaches.

He played in a total of 44 games and was mostly injury free until his final season when he suffered a foot injury that ended his year in game nine against Kansas. Overall, Lacy had 113-tackles, 30-tackles-for-loss, 11.5 sacks, and three fumbles caused, and two fumbles recovered. His best season was 2021 when the Cowboys went 12-2 finished with a win over No. 5 Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl. Lacy had 34 tackles, 11.5-tackles-for-loss, and 3.5 sacks.
