Oklahoma State Lands Transfer From Jacksonville University Forward Mike Marsh

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State basketball just landed its second transfer of the spring, this time a big man. Mike Boynton and Co. have added Mike Marsh, a forward/center out of Jacksonville University.

Marsh actually broke the news on his Instagram on Tuesday afternoon, but the news is just now making its way to Stillwater. Here’s the post from his high school coach on Twitter.

“We are excited to welcome Mike Marsh to Cowboy Basketball,” OSU head coach Mike Boynton said. “Mike brings a physical interior presence that can immediately impact next year’s team.”

Marsh checks in at 6-11, 240 pounds and just finished his redshirt junior season with the Dolphins where he averaged 10.5 points on 55% shooting from the field and 4.9 rebounds per game in 22 games. He also shot 70% from the free throw line. He started in 14 of those 22 games but missed a chunk of time in the middle of the season due to a shoulder injury on Dec. 10.

He scored double figures in 14 of his 22 games, including opening the season with 15 points against Duke. He also recorded 17 points and nine rebounds against VCU.

In his first season at JU, Marsh averaged nearly nine points on 52% shooting from the field and 5.4 rebounds per game.

Originally out of Columbia, S.C., Marsh’s journey taken him across the country and back again a few times. He started his career at USC Salkehatchie before transferring to Dodge City C.C. where he averaged nearly 12 points on nearly 70% shooting from the floor and seven rebounds in 21 games as a sophomore.

Marsh fills a huge hole in the roster following the departure of Kalib Boone, Moussa Cisse and Tyreek Smith, effectively making him the tallest player on the projected roster, just ahead of 6-9 Brandon Garrison. He’s also now one of the oldest players on the roster, which certainly helps as there’s five incoming freshmen.

The Cowboys now have three spots left to fill ahead of the 2023-24 season. They return John-Michael Wright, Bryce Thompson and Quion Williams. They’ve added Javon Small via the transfer portal and are bringing in five incoming freshmen: Brandon Garrison, Eric Dailey Jr., Justin McBride, Connor Dow and Jamyron Keller.

Well, if he's able to score decently against Duke, you'd think he's got a chance to make a positive contribution and perhaps up our inside scoring threat. Appears coach might have at least a shot at improving our team next year. He badly needed consistent scorers. This guys scoring video for 22/23 is pretty impressive. Certainly a better shot creator than our guys who left on the surface.

Hopefully, he is better offensively than Cisse. Cisse is not going to make it in the NBA. No offense and too small for a center. He was 6'9" at best.

I'm pretty sure it was reported that OSU officially measured him at 7-1, and this NBA scout report has him as a 2nd rounder in the 2023 draft.

I don't know if he'll make it there or not..

Draft Projection: Second-Round Pick in 2023 NBA Draft.

I was thinking Cisse was only a junior this year. I figured he'd make the NBA on defense alone he was so tall and good, but I also thought his offense was starting to show up by late, last year. I'd love to see him back and would think Boynton would give a lot to have kept him (unless there's issues we don't know about). Apparently things with Boone had been rough for Boynton. As off and on as Boone was, I wondered if he had some issue myself. Maybe that affected Cisse as a friend of Boone.

and maybe.... just maybe... the "issues" are not with the players.

you're talking like he would want to come back. Decisions like leaving are not made on a whim.

everybody is leaving..... half the team left last year, and they year before and the year before.

maybe.... just maybe... it's not the players.
