List Season and Oklahoma State is Positioned Very Well on Lists that Count

STILLWATER – I get lists sent to me all the time and many of them I look at and then just kind of forget. Lately, I’ve seen a few that get my attention.

Now, this season is projected to be a down year by Oklahoma State standards by many of the media prognosticators out there. Athlon Sports just published their 2023 College Football Preivew and predicted Oklahoma State to go 7-5 (4-5 in Big 12 play) and finish eighth in the conference and play Missouri in the Liberty Bowl. That is not terrible. Las Vegas with Fan Duel and Draft Kings have OSU at 6.5 and Caesar’s Sports Book is at 6.0.

I’ll predict that some of the later magazines, such as Phil Steele have Oklahoma State a little better. Remember, a Mike Gundy coached team has not won less than seven regular season games since 2018 and 2014. Oklahoma State won their seventh both seasons in bowl games. Those are the only two times that has happened since Gundy’s third season. That is twice in 15 years. I’m positive it won’t happen this season.

Okay, here are some of the early summertime lists that I found interesting.

Most of these come from College Football Report on Twitter (@CFPRep)

Best results as an underdog.

This one is the ranking of teams based on their record as an underdog. Obviously, Las Vegas has to help on this one as the more opportunities you get to play as an underdog then the more wins you have a chance to get. It is based on percentage which helps. No surprise to see Ohio State, Alabama, and Clemson right there on top. Liberty gets a lot of chances to play as an underdog and they have made the most of those. Oklahoma State coming in at sixth by win percentage and with 41 total games as an underdog is good. Now, Vegas tends to make Oklahoma State an underdog when maybe they should be even or favored. I’m not going to argue with the wise guys in the desert.

Best Coaching Jobs

Here’s another with the College Football Report graphic and I’m not sure what their criteria was in ranking the best college coaching jobs. Is the the job or is it the job that has been done? Wait, it has to be the job because OU came in number seven and you can’t tell me that Brent Venables was anywhere close to that with the job he did last season. I get this list but I believe I would take Oklahoma State over some of these like Missouri, Kentucky, Iowa, Nebraska, and South Carolina on facilities, recruiting territory, and conference situation. You think Missouri, South Carolina, or Kentucky are going to fare well in the SEC.

This one came from JWP Sports / CFP Alerts
