GENEVA, Ohio – Oklahoma State wrestling signee Christian Carroll claimed his spot on the Team USA U20 World Team in the 125 kg division at the World Team Trials on Saturday.

The No. 1 pound-for-pound prospect in the country entered the tournament with his spot in the 125 kg best-of-three final series already secured thanks to his U20 National Title in Las Vegas in late April. Carroll handled seventh-seeded Aden Attao with ease in the series, winning both bouts by a score of 10-0, with the second victory coming in just 17 seconds.

With the win, Carroll will compete for Team USA's World Team at the World Championships in Warsaw, Poland from September 14-20.

Carroll was not the only incoming Cowboy to put together a strong weekend, as Troy Spratley (57 kg), Cael Hughes (61 kg) and Brayden Thompson (86 kg) all fell in the best-of-three final series to finish as runner-up. Spratley is an incoming transfer from Minnesota, while Hughes and Thompson are both highly-touted high school signees.

Jordan Williams (65 kg) and Hayden Simpson (125 kg), both true freshmen, finished eighth in their respective weight classes. AJ Heeg, another incoming freshman at 79 kg, went 1-2 on the weekend and did not place.

In the U23 division, three Cowboys made their way into the quarterfinal round, as Daniel Manibog (70 kg), Dustin Plott (79 kg) and Luke Surber (92 kg) combined for a perfect 8-0 day. Plott is the reigning champion of 79 kg division, winning seven bouts in last year's tournament.

Cutter Sheets (70 kg), Benjamin Mower (86 kg), Kyle Haas (92 kg) and Konner Doucet (125 kg) all reached the Round of 16, but will wrestle in the consolation bracket as they look to earn medals tomorrow.

The U23 division will continue tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. CT as 10 more champions are crowned. Fans can follow the remaining Cowboys with streaming options, brackets and results available on FloWrestling.org.

Really looking forward to watching Carroll next year and to see if we can get this ship sailing in the right direction. This year was painful to watch. I don't care how improved Missouri and Iowa State are. We have to reclaim our place at the top of the Big 12 mountain and start winning National Championships again. That is the standard for Cowboy wrestling.

That is clearly the goal, to be able to unseat Mizzu which is not going to happen overnight.
I think that we are far from contending for a NCAA title. Cael Sanderson will have to retire for that to happen. I think he is that good of a coach and recruiter.
It's obvious to everyone that OSU cannot compete for championships any longer with having just one or two superstars on the team. Judging by PSU, it now takes at least 4 guys capable of making it to the finals to be able to win it all. Losing A.J. took the wind out of the sails.
Our freshman 285 guy looks like he has the potential to compete for a title one of these years.
Seems ironic and unfortunate that one of the best wrestlers and one of the best coaches will hold the OSU record for having the longest stretch in between NCAA championships.
The Cowboy's history of winning tradition is no longer the recruiting magnet that it used to be. Dan Gable had something to do with that. Have to wonder how long John Smith will stick around before he feels the need to move on to something else that can make him feel like a champion once again?
