East Texas OSU Alumni Chapter to Honor Rashaun Woods with an Orange Occasion
STILLWATER – The East Texas chapter of the Oklahoma State Alumni Association would love for all Cowboys and Cowgirls to make their way to The Cascades Country Club in Tyler on Tuesday, July 25 for An Orange Occasion! The event is to honor and welcome all East Texas students aattending or about to start their freshman year at Oklahoma State University. A number of loyal and true Oklahoma State alumni like Steve Braley, Ray Koons, and from the OSU Alumni Association Gillian Clinton have worked hard to make this event special.
The group will also be honoring and welcoming the new head football coach at Tyler High School in Cowboys alum, All-American, NCAA record setting wide receiver and NFL first-round draft pick Rashaun Woods. Woods set the NCAA record for most touchdown passes in a single game with seven against SMU in 2003. He was a two-time consensus All-American in 2002 and 2003. Woods and his family will be in attendance along with several of his Oklahoma State teammates and fellow football alumni form the East Texas vacinity.
Linebacker Pagitte McGee, safety and cornerback Martel Van Zant, and running back Kendall Hunter will be there for An Orange Occasion.
Hunter ran through the Big 12 in helping head coach Mike Gundy and company establish one of the most explosive offenses in the Big 12 and Hunter went on to play in the NFL for the San Francisco 49ers and the New Orleans Saints. Huner was a two-time first-team All-American in 2008 and 2010.
McGee was a hard hitting linebacker that also proved to be a ball hawker and came up with several turnovers in his career.
Van Zant gained a lot of noteriety from being an outstanding football player that was a long time starter and accomplished it without hearing the game. Van Zant played despite being deaf and communicated with his coaches and teammates through sign language and an interpreter He has gone on to be an inspiration to young people with challenges to show they too can play sports and accomplish any goal they set their mind to.
I’m proud to say that I will be there as they asked me to serve as the master of ceremonies for the event.
